There is a lot of cricket happening nowadays compared to what was being played 30 years back. With limited-overs flourishing and T20 taking over. Amount of cricket has been increasing on a daily basis. Given the hectic schedules, it would be obvious to note that the numbers of records are piling on too. 

In the last decade, there were an astonishing 866 test matches played,three 50-over World cups, two champions trophies and four T20 World cups played. Given the staggering numbers it wouldn't be a surprise that the batsmen are piling on runs when given their opportunity.

Cricwizz takes a look into the Top 5 batsman with most runs in ODI over the decade:

1. Virat Kohli (11125 runs)

Any Cricket lover would have guessed it right. Yes, it's the 31-year old Virat Kohli who tops the list here. The Run-machine scored a mammoth 11125 runs in the last decade at an staggering average of almost 61. Very few batsman were able to maintain such a consistency in the highest level and it is also to be noted he is not done at all and has maybe another 7 to 8 years of game left in him. 

 He will surely go to break all the records that stand now. He represented Team India in 227 ODIs and holds the highest score of 183.

2. Rohit Sharma (8249 runs)

The Hitman- Rohit Sharma makes it second on the list thus proving the dominance of Team India in the last decade. The 33-year old amassed 8249 runs in the 180 ODIs he played in the last decade at an astonishing average of 53.56. The Right-Hander again holds several records to his name. He is the only batsman to reach the double century mark in ODI on 3 occasions.

Also, his score 264 still stands as the highest score in an ODI scored till date and Pundits say it would be very tough to replicate such an innings by someone.He is also the Vice-captain of Indian team.

3. Hashim Amla (7265 runs)

The South -African prodigy is known for his outstanding stroke play. He is seldom seen lofting the ball and tends to play safe cricket which has been the secret ingredient to his success. He 37-year old scored 7265 runs in 159 matches he played for the proteas at an exceptional average of 49.76. 

He also holds the record for the fastest ever to 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000 and 7000 ODI runs.He also holds the record for fastest to score  ODI centuries. On August 8th of 2019, Hashim Amla announced his retirement from the game. He was 37 at the time.

4. AB de Villiers ( 6485 runs)

How would the list be complete without Mr.360. The former South African captain comes 4th in the list with 6485 ODI runs to his name in the last decade. He played 135 matches and scored the runs at an average of 64.20 which is the highest among the players in the list and also his strike rate of 109.76 is the highest among all the batsmen to play along in the era. 

The 36-year old shattered the record books by scoring the fastest century ever in a mere 31 balls breaking the earlier record of Corey Anderson. He hit a whopping 16 sixes and 9 fours and dismissed on 149(44 balls). He also holds the record for the fastest 150 in ODIs of 64 balls. He ended that innings 162* of 66 balls.

In May of  2018 he announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket.However, in January 2020 De Villiers expressed his intention to make an international comeback and play for South Africa in the 2020 T20 World Cup.

5. Ross Taylor (6428 runs)

The 36-year old Right-handed Batsman from New Zealand makes it 5th on the list with his 6428 runs. He represented The Black Caps in 155 ODIs in the last decade,scoring his runs at average of 54 and modest strike-rate of 83.56. Though his strike-rate stands as the lowest among the top 5 in our list. 

His experience stands tall. He is one of the most experienced players in the team and holds several records to his name too. He holds the record for the only player to play 100 International matches in all formats of the game.
