With the series already gone, India will look to end their tour of South Africa on a positive note when they face their hosts in the third and final ODI on Sunday, January 23. The match will take place in Newlands, Cape Town. In both ODIs, South Africa has been very clinical, winning important moments in the game and ultimately coming out on top.

In the first ODI, India lost by 31 runs, while the KL Rahul-led team lost by seven wickets in the second game of the three-match series. Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul both showed flashes of brilliance in the previous two ODIs, but they were unable to put it all together as a unit, and the duo will be hoping to go all the way in the final match. Rishabh Pant's 85-run knock in the second ODI wowed everyone, and the wicketkeeper would fare better to keep up the good work.

So far in this series, South Africa has demonstrated tremendous batting ability on both sides of the equation. They began by scoring 296 on a low-and-slow wicket in Paarl, with Temba Bavuma and Rassie van der Dussen scoring hundreds to propel their batting. A quickfire innings from Quinton de Kock and a carefully orchestrated batting from Janneman Malan ensured the Proteas win the second ODI.

Can KL Rahul and Co avoid a whitewash? Or will the Proteas prove too hot to handle?

Team News

With no injury concerns and a winning formula, the South African management is expected to roll out the same playing XI that has successfully dominated the games in the previous two matches of the series. Lungi Ngidi, who has appeared in all three Tests and two ODIs so far, maybe rested by South Africa.

With Venkatesh Iyer and Shreyas Iyer failing in both matches of the series and considering the match having no consequences. India might look to make some changes and try out some of the lesser-played players in the squad.

Probable Playing XI

South Africa (SA): Janneman Malan, Aiden Markram, Temba Bavuma, Rassie van der Dussen, Quinton de Kock (wk), Dwaine Pretorius, Andile Phehlukwayo, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, Tabraiz Shamsi

India (IND): Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer/Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rishabh Pant, Venkatesh Iyer, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shardul Thakur, Bhuvneshwar Kumar/Deepak Chahar, Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal

Must-Picks

South African batsmen Temba Bavuma and Quinton de Kock have proved to be the leaders in the team and have performed with the bat when expected. With good outings so far in the series, much more of the same is expected.

Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul being the openers of team India has been in the runs respectively in the first and second match. Not many would bet against them not scoring in third.

Prediction

This game is somewhat a rare dead-rubber because this series is not part of the World Cup Super League. South Africa, on the other hand, would not want to lose their momentum, especially with a Test series against New Zealand on the horizon, while losing is never an easy pill to swallow for India. This, on the other hand, appears to be a tough South African outfit. Team India will definitely come out all guns blazing but the proteas have proved to be a big strength and we do not see the Indian bowlers being able to stop the damage.

Cricwizz predicts South Africa to win the 3rd ODI and clean sweep the series, 3-0.
