Sydney Thunder are set to play Adelaide Strikers in the Knockout match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Sunday, January 23.

Sydney Thunder finished third in the table, while Adelaide Strikers finished fourth. The winner of this match will play Sydney Sixers in the Challenger match. The team that wins the Challenger match will be the winner of the Qualifier match that is either Perth Scorchers or Sydney Sixers in the finals of the Big Bash League 2022.

Adelaide Strikers were brilliant in their Eliminator win against Hobart Hurricanes, courtesy of Alex Carey and Matthew Short's 145-run stand that helped them register a fighting total.

In the bowling department, Peter Siddle was exquisite as he picked four wickets. Sydney Thunders were also good but the exact word would be lucky as they won their last match by 1 run against Melbourne Renegades to qualify for the playoffs.

Once again, the openers helped their team win as Alex Hales and Usman Khwaja scored 44 and 77 respectively. Cameron Boyce picked five wickets. Renegades' skipper Aaron Finch scored 82 as they lost the game by a fine margin.

What do you think? Who books a place in the Challenger match?

Team News

Both teams have players fit to feature and are likely to field the same 11. Both teams come in this match with a win and would hope that they play the match without any concerns.

However, both teams cannot depend on their openers for a long time. There will have to be an equal contribution from the players to ensure a successful performance in this crucial match.

Probable Playing XI

Sydney Thunder (SYT): Wes Agar, Fawad Ahmed, Alex Carey, Harry Conway, George Garton, Ryan Gibson, Travis Head, Spencer Johnson, Rashid Khan, Harry Nielsen, Liam O’Connor, Matthew Renshaw, Liam Scott, Matt Short, Peter Siddle, Jake Weatherald, Jon Wells, Daniel Worrall

Prediction

Despite Adelaide Strikers' low finish, they seem to be a tough competition for the Thunder. We are anticipating an enthralling contest that may go down the wire.

However, Cricwizz predicts Adelaide Strikers to win the knockout and play Sydney Sixers in the BBL 2021-22 Challenger.
