It is not quite often we see a team beat the Proteas in their backyard but Bangladesh just did that on Friday evening. The underdogs led by Tamin Iqbal scripted a memorable victory at the Supersport Park in Centurion to register their first ever ODI win in the South African soil.

Bangladesh have been rich in form over the last few months as their victory against New Zealand in New Zealand still echoes around the cricketing fraternity. It is safe to say that the Proteas were got off guard in the opening encounter and one can to an extent agree that they failed to do their homework on the replenishing Bangladeshi side.

The attack was led by the star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who played a clinical innings of 77 off just 64 balls. The 34-year old was accompanied by Liton Das and Yasir Ali, who scored 50 each.

They were also well supported by the cameos by their lower order and the moment they breached the 300 mark, the Proteas were always on the backseat.

After losing three wickets for just 36 runs, the hosts looked well out of the game but partnership between Van der Dussen and David Miller did seem to get them on track but the 24-year old off spinner Mehidy Hasan bagged four timely wickets to ensure Bangladesh took the lead in the 3-match series.

Another victory by the visitors could see a memorable feat in their cricketing journey. However, we know how good the Proteas are at bouncing back. Tamin Iqbal and Co. surely won't go down without a fight.

"We obviously have to bounce back, Sunday is just around the corner. We need to show the resilience we are known for."

Team News

The Proteas have a well balanced side, however, pacer Lungi Ngidi has been rather expensive in his outings off lately. Given that he conceeded 75 runs in his quota of 10 overs, the Proteas are likely to replace the 25-year old with Wayne Parnell, who could bring in some firepower with bat as well.

On the other hand, the visitors are likely to feature the same Xl after the emphatic victory in the opening ODI.

Probable playing Xl

South Africa (RSA): Janneman Malan, Aiden Markram, Temba Bavuma (c), Rassie van der Dussen, Kyle Verreynne (wk), David Miller, Andile Phehlukwayo, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi/ Wayne Parnell

Bangladesh (BAN): Tamim Iqbal (c), Liton Das, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Yasir Ali, Mahmudullah, Afif Hossain, Mehidy Hasan, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman

Must-Picks

Temba Buvuma has been registering decent scores in recently and he does possess an excellent average of 45. He along with Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib Al hasan are our two Must-Picks for this encounter.

Van der Dussen is definitely one of the best finds by South Africa in recent times, the 33-year old averages a jaw-dropping 75 despite playing 33 ODIs and that does show that his incredible consistency. Another must pick for the 2nd ODI is the Bangladeshi skipper Tamin Iqbal, who looks to be in incredible touch ever since his comeback to side after the injury.

Prediction

Do not conclude things by the result of the 1st ODI, there are very few sides that have mastered the art of bouncing back and the South Africans are one of them. The Johannesburg pitch is a batsmen's paradise and we can expect the 2nd ODI to be a high-scoring encounter. Yes, the Bangladeshi batsmen are in great nick but given how the conditions can be in favor of the hosts, the South Africans are expected to come out all guns blazing.

The toss can play a vital role and if Bangladesh can win the toss and register a huge total on the board like the 1st ODI, we might be in for a thriller.

Cricwizz predicts South Africa to win the 2nd ODI and level the series, 1-1.
