During the bidding of various teams in 2008, emerging media gained the ownership of Rajasthan Royals with a bid of $67 million, making them least expensive team in the IPL.  

Subsequently Rajasthan Royals went on to win the inaugural edition of IPL under the captaincy of Shane Watson, despite being written off as title contenders by media and fans. 

And Ajinkya Rahane holds the record of most runs for Rajasthan Royals with 3098, while Shane Watson is the leading wicket-taker with 67.

Rajasthan Royals are one of the famous franchises in IPL. What makes them different from other teams is that they have been indulged in various controversies and were banned from playing in the IPL for two years along with Chennai Super Kings; subsequently, they returned to playing in 2018.  

Rajasthan Royals IPL 2022 auction

In IPL 2022 auction Rajasthan Royals had a salary cap of 62 crores, and out of 62 crores, the team spent 28 crores to retain their three most crucial players. Sanju Samson for 14 crores, Jos Buttler for 10 crores and Yashasvi Jaiswal for 4 crores.

Besides retaining their crucial players, Rajasthan Royals picked up 21 players during IPL 2022 auction. Devdutt Padikkal, Yuzvendra Chahal, Navdeep Saini, Trent Boult, Daryl Mitchell were some key players picked in the auction. In contrast, Prasidh Krishna was the team’s costliest player at 10 crores in the IPL auction 2022.

Following the auction, it looked like they have purchased some impressive players, but still don’t have the great depth in their squad, having lost their momentum in IPL Rajasthan Royals  will need to bounce back to qualify beyond the group stage.
