The 7th match of the Indian Premier League 2022 is set to take place between the defending champions Chennai Super Kings and the debutant Lucknow Super Giants at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, this Thursday. Both the sides are yet to get off the mark, the CSK were thrashed by the KKR in the season opener, while the Super Giants were made to taste defeat by Gujarat Titans.

Chennai Super Kings were completely railed in their opening encounter as apart from their former skipper MS Dhoni and Robin Uthappa there was no contribution from the rest. Despite scoring just 131 runs on the board, the team did show some resistance with the bowling but the target proved insufficient.

The Lucknow Super Giants too will take the field on the back of a defeat, however, after being 29 for 4 in the 5th overs, the resistance showed by IPL debutant Ayush Badoni and Deepak Hooda to boost them to a respectable total of 158 runs would have definitely elevated the morale of the franchise. It could be interesting to see how things would turn out to be if the opening duo of KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock does get into the groove.

Can Jadeja register his first win as the skipper of CSK? Or will his wait be extended by KL Rahul and Co? It does promise to be an enthralling contest between the two sides.

Team News

The top order did showcase a dismal show in the opener but given it was the first match, the management would not be yet pressing the panic button. However, the skipperโ€™s decision to give the debutant Mohsin Khan just 2 overs was a bit surprising. If the management feels he is not fitting into the combination, they are likely to replace him with the more experienced Ankit Rajpoot, who has played 29 matches in the IPL.

Chennai Super Kings will be feeling relieved as the English all-rounder Moeen Ali has now completed his quarantine and will be available for the selections. He is expected to replace the kiwi spinner, Mitchell Santner. Aliโ€™s inclusion will definitely strengthen the middle order.

Probable playing Xl

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG): KL Rahul (c), Quinton de Kock (wk), Evin Lewis, Manish Pandey, Deepak Hooda, Krunal Pandya, Mohsin Khan/Ankit Rajpoot, Ayush Badoni, Dushmantha Chameera, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan

Chennai Super Kings (CSK): Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devon Conway, Robin Uthappa, Ambati Rayudu, Ravindra Jadeja (c), Shivam Dube, MS Dhoni (wk), Dwayne Bravo, Mitchell Santner/Moeen Ali, Adam Milne, Tushar Deshpande

Must-Picks

CSKโ€™s no.3, Robin Uthappa, was in splendid touch in the opening encounter, and in his cameo of 28 runs off 21 balls, he managed to play some gorgeous shots, and definitely, that was just a teaser of what is to come. He along with Evin Lewis of the Super Giants are likely to pile on the runs.

CSK skipper Ravindra Jadeja and LSG all-rounder Deepak Hooda are our two other must-picks for the 7th match of the IPL 2022. CSKโ€™s most experienced bowler Dwayne Bravo once again managed to deliver with the ball, picking up three crucial wickets against KKR, he also could be a great pick in the fantasy line-up.

Prediction

Both sides had a batting collapse in the opening encounters and it was the lower order that helped them register decent totals on the board. It would be interesting to see how things proceed for them once the openers start to deliver and given the caliber of these players, the wait does not seem long.

The batting department of both sides seems to be well balanced and there is no separating them based on that. However, in the bowling department, the CSK holds an upper hand with the likes of Ravindra Jadeja, Bravo, and Milne. LSG have a rather inexperienced bowling attack and that could affect them heavily in the upcoming encounters.
