Ahead of their first IPL game of the 2020 season, Delhi Capitals sustained a huge blow as Indian pacer Ishant Sharma injured himself during the training session. He is reported to have a back injury and as far as his comeback is concerned, he is expected to be sidelined for a considerable amount of time.
The 32-year-old has had a history with several injuries, suffering an ankle injury in early January before declaring himself fit for this IPL edition. It first occurred in the test series against New Zealand as he had to return just a month later but then endured the same injury again, losing his chance to re-enter the national side.
Ishant had undergone a lengthy rehabilitation process at the NCA but unfortunately, all his efforts went vain. For Delhi Capitals, multiple replacements are already in line with some new names as well as old ones. Mohit Sharma, Harshal Patel and Avesh Khan, all of them can fill in for Ishant. However, the procedure to be picked among them is yet unknown as in on what basis will they be picked.
If experience is concerned then Mohit Sharma possesses ample of it but if the franchise wants to go up for a youngster then they might look for other names. Not to forget, Delhi have pace strength overseas too. Kagiso Rabada was one of the lethal bowlers in the IPL 2019 but had to leave midway due to national duty. Anrich Nortje is yet another name who has massive responsibility on his shoulders for the kind of reputation he has.
The spin department also went through reinforcements with the latest addition to the arsenal being Ravichandran Ashwin who led Kings XI Punjab, Delhi’s first IPL 2020 opponents, last year. With Shimron Hetmeyer and Marcus Stoinis arriving too, Delhi will certainly be one of the teams to look forward too.
