The Road Safety World series 2020-2021 is taking place in full swing as the former players who served their country, once again reanimate their skills. The 8th match of the tournament is set to take place between the South African Legends and Sri Lanka Legends at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur, this Monday.
The legends of proteas will be playing their first match after the resumption of the tournament. They find themselves placed at a tricky 4th spot in the points table with 4 points. The Lankan Legends find themselves comfortably placed at the second spot with 8 points from three matches. Their only loss came against the undefeated Indian Legends.
This will be the first time the two teams lock horns and the Lankans who have already played a game and came out victorious will hold a slight advantage going into this thriller of a contest. The proteas side, lead by Jonty Rhodes consists of some of the best players of the Country, which includes the likes of Alviro Peterson, Makhaya Ntini, and Loots Bosman. With both teams well balanced, it promises to be an engaging clash.
A win here for the Asian team will see them strengthen their grip at the second spot. While a win for the proteas would see them jump to second place courtesy of a superior net run-rate than their opponents.
Can the South African Legends continue from where they left last year? Or will it be Dilshan and Co. who continue their winning run?
Match Toss Time: 18:30 Local (13:00 GMT)
Match Start Time: 19:00 Local (13:30 GMT)
Match Venue: Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium, Raipur
The conditions are ideal for the game of cricket as clear skies are expected throughout the course of the day. The temperature is forecasted to be hovering in 34-27 degrees Celsius and the humidity at the peak is expected to reach the 23 percent mark.
As we saw in the last few matches the strip seems to be very competitive as both the batsmen and bowlers seem to be getting good assistance. Three matches have been played since the resumption of the tournament post the Pandemic suspension and all the matches have seen the chasing team on the winning side. For that reason, the team winning the toss should be looking to bowl first and anything under the 165 mark is likely to be chasable.
South Africa have star players like Jonty Rhodes, Loots Bosman, Justin Kemp, and Makhaya Ntini. Jonty Rhodes will be leading the side and they are likely to open with Morne Van Wyk and Loots Bosman. The bowling department is likely to feature Makhaya Ntini, Thandi Tshabalala, and Roger Telemachus.
The Lankan Legends will be more than happy to feature the same Xl that featured against the West Indies Legends on Saturday. Dilshan and Sanath Jayasuriya showcased exemplary touch and will be looking to continue their prime form. The bowlers except for Dhammika Prasad did a decent job with the ball to restrict the star-studded West Indies line-up.
