In shocking news, Chennai Super King captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has decided to step down as captain for the IPL 2022 and has handed the leadership reins to compatriot Ravindra Jadeja.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who has been the captain of Chennai Super Kings since IPLā€™s inception in 2008, will not captain the Chennai Super Kings, as his decision came two days before the start of IPL 2022.

In a statement, CSKā€™s spokesperson said,

ā€œMS Dhoni has decided to hand over the leadership of Chennai Super Kings and picked Ravindra Jadeja to lead the team. Jadeja, who has been an integral part of Chennai Super Kings since 2012, will only be the third player to lead CSK. Dhoni will continue to represent Chennai Super Kings this season and beyond.ā€

Dhoni has guided CSK to four IPL finals, having won all of them. Dhoni is at his 40 and has already retired from international cricket and might be playing his last IPL this season.

CSK will face Kolkata Knight Riders in their opening match at Wankhede Stadium on Saturday.

Ravindra Jadeja, who hasnā€™t captain any side since 2007, will now take over the reins of Chennai Super Kings as a captain. Jadeja has been impressive for Chennai since he was bought by the club.

He also reclaimed his top spot from West Indies Jason Holder in the latest ICC test rankings for all-rounders, which was released on Wednesday.

Jadeja rose to number 1 after his excellent display, where he scored 175 not out and took nine wickets in the first test match against Sri Lanka in Mohali earlier this month.

Now it remains to be seen how the Jadeja will take the captaincy role as the pressure on him will be sky-high, and Chennai has been one of the successful teams of IPL over the years.
