The teams after an exciting and neck to neck performance in the limited-over format will now down the white jersey. The 1st test between Australia and India is set to take place from Thursday at the Adelaide Oval. This will be the first time the two teams play each other with the pink ball.

The two teams were inseparable in the limited-overs format as the hosts went on to win the 3-match ODI series 2-1. The visitors though were quick enough to make a comeback and they managed to win the T20I series 2-1 and gave a fitting reply to the Aussies. This does serve as a promise to us that the upcoming Test series is going to be a tight encounter.

The last time the two sides met in the longest format was back in 2018-2019, during India’s tour of Australia. The Indians finished the tour on a high as they clinched the 4-match Test series 2-1 after the 4th test was drawn between them.

Though the hosts hold a slight advantage, the Indians did show that they are capable of getting past the Aussies in their own backyard. Can Virat Kohli and Co. start the series with a win? Or will the Aussies prove too tough to be beaten at home?

Weather Report

The conditions are well in favor of cricket throughout the five days as clear skies are expected on all 5 days. The temperature is expected to hover in the range of 19-14 degree range and the humidity at the peak is anticipated to touch the 52 percent mark.

Pitch

The pitch is Adelaide is known to be a batsman-friendly one but it does have a bit for the pacers as well. The occasional overcast conditions and given the fact that the match is a Day/Night one could help the pacers generate enough swing to disrupt the momentum of the batsmen. Overall, it could be a tough battle between the bat and ball. Said that, if the batsmen manage to play the new ball they are likely to score big.

Team News

Australia will be without the service of their in-form and key opener David Warner. They will also be missing out Will Puckovski. It looks likely that Marcus Harris and Joe Burns will start the batting proceedings for the visitors. The bowling department looks to be well balanced as they have their regular trio- Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Pat Cummins.

Team India on the other side will have to make a call between Shubman Gill and Prithvi Shaw to open the innings along with Mayank Agarwal at the top. KL Rahul is likely to anchor in the lower middle-order and it also looks like Rishabh Pant will make it to the playing Xl, given the great form he is in. With Ravindra Jadeja not fully fit yet, it looks likely that Ravichandran Ashwin will serve as the lone spinner for Team India.
