Bangladesh created history when they took a 3-1 lead in the ongoing five-match T20I series against Australia at home. This is the first time that Bangladesh has won a T20I series against Australia. Bangladesh had earlier stunned world-beaters across formats.

Bangladesh beats Pakistan in 1999 World Cup

Bangladesh had joined the tournament as an associate nation and was expected to be steamrolled by opponents. But Bangladesh had other ideas. In a historical World Cup match against Pakistan, Bangladesh brought out their best cricket and defeated their opponents by 62 runs

Bangladesh had posted 223/9 and raised hopes of a win after they sent back Pakistan’s five top-order batsmen for just 42 runs on the board. Although Pakistan did fight back, they could not stop Bangladesh from running away with the game and were bowled out for 161.

Bangladesh beats India in 2007 World Cup

An Indian XI comprising Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, Yuvraj Singh, and MS Dhoni were stunned when they were bowled out for just 191 in India’s opening match against Bangladesh in the 2007 World Cup. Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal then came out all guns blazing to take on Indian bowlers of Zaheer Khan and Co. Tamim made 51, and another twin fifties from Mushfiqur Rahim, and Shakib Al Hasan saw India plummet to a shocking loss. 

The defeat has a huge impact on India’s chances as they were left with must-win scenarios in their last two group matches to qualify for the next round. But India lost their last group clash to Sri Lanka to be knocked out of the tournament from the first round itself. Later in that tournament, Bangladesh also defeated South Africa.

Bangladesh beats Australia by 5 wickets in 2005 NatWest Series 

Bangladesh was chasing a competitive 250 against a mighty Australian bowling attack comprising Glen McGrath, Jason Gillespie, Michael Kasprowicz, and Brad Hogg in the 2005 NatWest Series. No one gave Bangladesh any chance of an upset win. But Mohammad Ashraful played the innings of his life, cracking exactly 100 to take Bangladesh home in their only ODI win against Australia so far. 

Bangladesh beats England in Dhaka Test in 2016

Bangladesh was trailing 0-1 going into the second Test against England at home. England were favorites to win the match, and take the series 2-0. Chasing 273 for a win, England looked in a comfortable situation at 100 for no loss to pull off a win. But Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shakib Al Hasan then spun England all out for 164. Miraz took 6 for 77, while Shakib took 4/49 to help Bangladesh post their first and only Test victory so far over England. Bangladesh drew the series 1-1.

Bangladesh beats Australia in 2017 Dhaka Test

Bangladesh stunned the Aussies in the first Test at Dhaka in 2017. Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was the architect of the win. First, he rescued Bangladesh from 3/10 to 260 all out in the first innings with a knock of 84. He then took two five-wicket hauls to help Bangladesh post their only Test win over Australia. 

Chasing 265 for a win, Australia tailenders looked to spoil the Bangladesh party, taking the score from 199/7 to 244/9. But Aussies could not make it past the line and were all out for 244, and falling short by just 20 runs.
