The Men in blue lock horns with in-form South Africa after a nightmare New Zealand series.
The return of Shikhar Dhawan, Hardik Pandya and Bhuvneshwar Kumar has sparked the hopes of Virat kohli and Co. Given the home conditions and return of key players India might feel they are set for the task but the low temperature and predictions of heavy showers team India might have to wait to enjoy the home advantage.
Though, Dhawan could provide the much needed experience at the top of the order its was very evident that the absence of Rohit Sharma will be surely felt as India struggled to make an impact in the ODI and Tests against the Kiwis. With, rain expected to spoilsport its highly doubtful if India can start their redemption.
Pitch and Conditions
History suggests Dharamsala is a field-first venue, with teams chasing winning three out of the four ODIs played here. The last time these teams met here in a T20I in 2015, South Africa chased down 200. Faf du Plessis and David Miller from the current squad were part of that team.
The last time these teams were scheduled to play a T20I here in September the game was washed out, and the same result cannot be ruled out with rain predicted on match day.
With India losing their recent T20I against South Africa even after setting an imposing target of 200, one can easily make out that the pitch here usually offers a lot of runs. Since the ground is located at a high altitude, the ball travels faster as well. In addition, the dew becomes a major factor in the evening thus being the reason why teams prefer to chase at this venue.
Team News and Predicted line-up
India: With the comeback of three key players team India would have lot of changes to make from the team that played in New Zealand. With Ravindra Jadeja covering up for Hardik Pandya in his absence will he make way for him or could both play giving India greater depth in batting and more options in bowling.
In the absence of Rohit Sharma, Prithiv Shaw would continue to open the innings, but this time along with the south paw.
Predicted line-up: Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Virat Kohli (C), KL Rahul(Wk), Manish Pandey, Shreyas Iyer, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah,Kuldeep Yadav.
South Africa: Though the proteas coming down after a stunning of 3-0 white wash against Australia. The return of Star players Faf du Plessis and Van der Dussen would only boost their performance even more but would surely mean couple of them making way for them.
Squad: Quinton de Kock (C & wk), Rassie van der Dussen, Faf du Plessis,Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Jon-Jon Smuts, Andile Phehlukwayo, Lungi Ngidi, Lutho Sipamla, Keshav Maharaj, Janneman Malan.
Given the winning attitude of Virat Kohli and also given the thought of white wash against New Zealand its not difficult to say Virat and Co. would come out with their guns blazing. But, given the fact that South Africa are coming in with great form after white washing Australia 3-0. Team India have huge task ahead. With inclusion of experienced Dhawan and Hardik in the team and with Bhuvenshwar Kumar adding strength to the bowling well could mean India are much stronger team than were against New Zealand. Given, the rain doesn’t play spoilsport we are predicting Team India to start the series on a winning note.
