IPL 2020 is set to kickstart in just a few weeks. Most players, both local and foreign players, will be eyeing a good performance in the IPL 2020 to make a comeback in the T20Is to take part in World T20 in October.
Cricwizz takes a look at players who will be eyeing a comeback in T20Is through IPL 2020
India coach Ravi Shastri has said MS Dhoni will be in contention for World T20 if he has a good IPL season. Dhoni, who has not played a single international game since the 2019 World Cup semi-final, is also likely to target World T20 as his return. Although the chances of his comeback in T20Is is slim, one cannot rule him out altogether as he has the backing of both Shastri and captain Virat Kohli. Dhoni will be raring to have a go at the bowlers in IPL 2020.
Not so long ago, Krunal was the preferred all-rounder in India’s T20I squad. But he lost his place due to inconsistent performance, and the growth of Ravindra Jadeja as a bankable left-arm spin all-rounder. But not all his lost for Pandya. A good performance in IPL 2020 can see him back in contention for World T20 and edge other players in the competition.
AB de Villiers
South African cricket board has said AB de Villiers is in running for World T20 squad if the retired cricketer is willing to return, and is in form. ABD will be taking part in IPL 2020 as part of RCB squad and this will be the platform for the 360-degree cricketer to make a comeback for South Africa. The Proteas desperately need the services of ABD in World T20 to make a bid for the title.
The West Indian spinner has been out of international reckoning since August last year. He too will be looking to get back into the T20I squad through a good performance in IPL 2020. Narine plays for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL and has been a star performer for them for quite a few seasons. But Narine has been out of sorts for quite sometime and only good performance in IPL 2020 can see him back in international cricket.
Ashwin has been relegated to Test specialist in India squad. But he continues to remain as a wicket-taker in IPL. He will play for Delhi Daredevils this season and will be their main wicket-taking option. A good IPL may open the door for his selection as India lack a quality off-spinner in their squad as they have focussed only on wrist-spinners for the last few seasons.
