The schedule for the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League has been released a month before the start of the league. IPL is slated to begin from March 29 with Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings facing off in the season opener at Wankhede Stadium.
While there were speculations that the board might re-consider deferring the start of the season after some of the franchises expressed displeasure due to unavailability of few players, has been put to rest as the league begins on the proposed date itself.
Although IPL hasn’t released the schedule officially, a report in the ESPNCricinfo confirms the update on the IPL schedule 2020. The schedule is out only for the matches in the group stages which is scheduled to culminate on May 17 in Bengaluru.
All the teams except for Rajasthan Royals will host each of their eight home fixtures at their usual home venues. Royals, who have requested to host a couple of their home games in Guwahati, are currently involved in a case hearing filed by the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) for shifting matches from the Jaipur ground.
In one of the major changes this season, there will only six double-headers in the entire tournament, instead of five as told by BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, a few days ago. The IPL committee has done away with double headers on Saturdays after the host broadcaster showed concerns over affected TRPs for the afternoon games.
The timings, however, for the matches hasn’t been altered as the night games will begin at 8 Pm in the evening and afternoon matches to proceed at usual 4 Pm time despite reservations from the host broadcaster.
The schedule for the final week of the IPL playoffs stages hasn’t been made public yet. The IPL final will be played on May 24 as discussed in the IPL governing council meeting last month.
