The left arm fast bowler Shapoor Zadran has made his way back into the Afghanistan T20I squad for the upcoming series against Ireland which will be played next month.
Zadran, who was the spearhead of the Afghanistan attack at one stage, hasn’t been able to play too much of cricket in the recent times. While injuries have been his major concern, his form has been a bit up and down as well.
The 32-year old wasn’t a part of the Afghanistan squad for the ODI World Cup last year either. However, with some consistent performances in the domestic circuit, he has caught the eyes of the selectors.
Zadran will form the pace bowling duo with the youngster Naveen ul Haq who has played just one T20 international for Afghanistan so far.
Afghanistan have also opted for the 19-year old leg spinner Qais Ahmad who has excelled with the ball in various T20 leagues around the world, including the Big Bash League as well.
Qais, however, might not get to play in the first couple of games of the T20I series against Ireland as Rashid Khan and Mujeeb ur Rahman are the two first choice spinners of or Afghanistan in the shortest format of the game.
Afghanistan are likely to go with two-two bowling combination, with Shapoor and Naveen being the quick bowlers and Rashid and Mujeeb being the spin duo. Mohammad Nabi will be the fifth bowler of the side.
Asghar Afghan is also going to resume his captaincy which was taken away from him under controversial circumstances ahead of the last year’s World Cup. The veteran batsman has now been re-appointed the captain of the Afghan team in all three formats.
Here is the Afghanistan squad for the T20I series against Ireland –
