Indian Head coach Ravi Shastri has yet again fueled the speculations surrounding MS Dhoni’s future with the Indian cricket team. The Indian wicket-keeper batsman, who last featured for India in the World Cup Semi-Final against India, has not played any competitive cricket for more than seven months now.
Some of his fans were heartbroken when he was recently excluded from BCCI’s Annual Contract list, signifying an end to his playing career for India. It was, however, due to Dhoni failing to meet certain criteria that barred him from being allotted any central contract by the BCCI.
It was, however, only a few days back that Dhoni was seen practicing in his gear in Ranchi. While the former Indian captain has preferred to stay quiet over his retirement plans, rumors continue to float around the cricketing circles with Dhoni in no mood of making any comeback into the national side.
The Indian coach, however, reckons that nothing can’t be ruled out as of now. He thinks the 38-year old might want to throw his name into the ring for the T20 World Cup based upon how he feels after the IPL this year.
Shastri was quite clear in stating that it will get clear only after IPL 2020 as to how Dhoni’s career shapes up for the future.
“Exactly what I wanted to ask you. There is IPL coming. Uske baad tum dekho. Everyone will know. He will know, selectors will know, the captain will know seeing him, and more important than anything else he will know.”
He believed Dhoni would never impose himself as a liability on the Indian team, if he doesn’t feel right to be able to perform for the team. “What I’m trying to tell the people is he is the last person to impose himself on anything. You know him. I know him, “Ravi added.
“For all you know, he may start the IPL, if he doesn’t feel good he’ll say ‘Thank you very much,’ Ravi Shastri said as quoted by Sportstar.
