India is all set to host Sri Lanka in the final T20I of the series at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, tonight. Will the Men in Blue clean sweep the Lions?
The chances of that happening are quite good as the Indian team is in the phenomenal form currently. Also, with Jasprit Bumrah back in the team, the bowling unit looks more solid.
The Lions have lost their last four T20I matches while India have won their last two T20I series. Moreover, the Men in Blue have won their last six T20I encounters against the visitors played in India.
The first match of the ongoing T20I series was washed out, however, India managed to win the second T20I comfortably and lead the three matches series 1-0.
In the second T20I, Sri Lanka batted first and could only put up 142 runs on the scoreboard. The Men in Blue got a fiery start to the chase with the help of the in-form KL Rahul. The Indian opener scored 45 runs, which was the highest individual score of the match.
The Indian bowlers also performed quite well as they picked up nine wickets of the Lions and restricted them to a low total. Shardul Thakur picked the highest number of wickets (3-23) while Navdeep Saini grabbed the headlines for his quick yorker wicket.
KL Rahul vs Wanindu Hasaranga
This is going to be an interesting battle as Wanindu Hasaranga sent KL Rahul back to the pavilion in the second T20I and both will try to get better of each other in this match.
The Indian opener is in the tremendous form currently and it looks like that he will be the first-choice opener in the coming T20 World Cup. Rahul scored two half-centuries in the last T20I series against West Indies and missed his half-century by just five runs in this series.
Hasaranga, on the other hand, will try to compensate for the visitors’ bowling attack. The Lions does not have a lethal bowling unit and with the deep Indian batting line-up, it will be tough for them to win this game.
The Sri Lankan spinner picked up both the wicket of the Indian opener and was the highest wicket-taker in the second T20I. Hasaranga will once again try to get his side a breakthrough and improve their chances of winning this game and leveling the series.
Jasprit Bumrah vs Kusal Perera
Kusal Perera has scored 1205 runs in his 43 T20I innings with 28. 02. The Sri Lankan has scored 134 runs in his 4 innings in India; the highest score of 77 runs. The keeper-batsman has scored 11 half-centuries in his T20I career so far.
Jasprit Bumrah, on the other hand, returned to the team after a gap of three months due to back injury. The Indian pacer was the costliest bowler in the second T20I but picked up one wicket. Bumrah will be eager to get back into rhythm as the series against Australia and New Zealand are approaching.
Perera will try to provide his team some stability as there are good chances that the Lions will lose an early wicket. The keeper-batsman, however, will face Bumrah and it will be tough for him to keep his wicket against one of the best bowlers in the world currently.
India is looking in a good rhythm and have managed to win the last two T20I series. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, are going through a tough period and will need little more time to get back on top.
The Indian batting line-up is solid and with the poor bowling line-up of the Lions, winning this game shouldn’t be tough for the Men in Blue. A win tonight will also seal the series for the hosts, and they wouldn’t like to miss such opportunity.
So, keeping everything in mind, Cricwizz believes that the Men in Blue will win the game and clinch the series against the Lions. This will also boost the confidence of the side, which will have a lot of impact in the coming ODI series against Australia starting from 14th January.
