India vs West Indies series has been dominated by competitiveness shown from both sides. The first T20I match had set the tone for the rest of the series. Virat Kohli came up with a masterclass 94* to steer India to victory in the 1st T20I at Hyderabad. West Indies bounced back to level the series with everything to fight for in the third T20I on Wed.
Kohli has been known to giving it back and having a go at his opponents without a care in the world. Cricwizz takes a look at few incidents when Kohli has got the better of his critics, detractors or opponents.
Virat Kohli sets it straight with Kesrick Williams
During the first T20I at Hyderbad against West Indies, Kohli also got back at Kesrick Williams and ticked him off of his bucket list after hitting a delivery from the bowler out of the ground.
Post the match, Kohli recollected that Williams had ticked him when the West Indian had dismissed him in 2017.
After two years, Kohli finally got his man. But in the second T20I, Williams has got Kohli’s wicket and celebrated with a finger on his lips.

During the Mohali Test, Ben Stokes started the altercation when he apparently had an exchange with the Indian skipper after the England all-rounder was stumped by keeper Parthiv Patel off Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling in England first innings.
Stokes was reprimanded for his reaction by the ICC. When Kohli was dismissed by Stokes in India’s first innings, the England all-rounder celebrated the wicket by putting his hands in his mouth.
Kohli reciprocated it by putting a finger in his mouth when Stokes was dismissed by R Ashwin in the second innings. The spat has spiced up the India vs England series.
Kohli showing middle-finger to Australian crowd in 2012
India were having a horrible series, and the sledging and the crowd heckling were too much to handle. It had got onto Virat Kohli who promptly showed the middle-finger. And he let not the fight ends there.
He gave a perfect reply by cracking 116 at Adelaide, shutting the Australians up. Although India lost the series 0-4, Kohli’s ton was the only saving grace.
Kohli, in the next series Down Under, proved who the boss was by cracking four tons in 2014-15 series.
Kohli abuses journalist in 2015
The year 2015 began with controversy during the World Cup. After a training session during the World Cup, Virat Kohli was caught abusing a journalist, taking him for the scribe who wrote an article about then Kohli’s girlfriend and now wife, Anushka Sharma.
Kohli later apologised through some other journalists after being told he had mistaken that scribe for someone else. Team Director Ravi Shastri also reprimanded Kohli, saying it was unbecoming of a future India captain to behave in this manner publicly.
In 2019, Kohli asked people not to drag his wife Anushka into matters not connected with her.
When Virat Kohli called Steve Smith a cheater
Kohli is not the one to mince words. In the Bengaluru Test against Australia, Kohli got back at his counterpart Steve Smith, calling the Australian a ‘cheat’.
Kohli said Smith repeatedly looked at the dressing room to take help for DRS referrals. Kohli said he pointed out to the umpires for Smith’s alleged acts of cheating. Smith later said he suffered a brain fade and looked up to the dressing room.
Smith was later banned for ball-tampering scandal during the South Africa series in 2018.
