Bangladesh’s tour to India 2019 has got off to the best start possible. Shaken by the ban on their talismanic player, Shakib Al Hasan, the Bangla Tigers responded with a confident win against India in the opening T20 at Delhi.
It now has a chance to seal a historic series win by winning this next match. On the other hand, India has no room for error and must take a hard look at its patchy performance in the previous match.
The home side has a lot of work to do in T20Is, but we can expect a better-prepared effort at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot.
There is the threat of cyclonic rains overhanging this match but as of now, the weather forecast is pretty favorable.
Bangladesh has shown that it is not going to be a pushover and the fans will flock in to see a tight contest.
India lost the opening match of this series after a very poor performance but it was not a one-sided match at all.
Up until the last couple of overs when Mushfiqur Rahim took over, India had a very good chance of winning this match.
The dropped catch of Mushfiqur Rahim, as well as the decision not to review an LBW call against him, turned out to be the turning points of the match.
It will be interesting to see if India makes a change in its playing eleven for this upcoming match.
The one change we may see happening is an additional batsman like Manish Pandey or Sanju Samson in place of Shivam Dube.
India’s strong batting lineup failed to capitalize on some decent starts and it was only through some impressive late-order hitting from Krunal Pandya and Washington Sundar that a par-score was reached.
Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, and Lokesh Rahul all looked good before getting out. Rishabh Pant also played a decent hand under pressure but he did not look as fluent as he usually does.
India’s seam bowling department looked a bit underwhelming in the first match. The spinners brought India back in the game, particularly Yuzvendra Chahal, who was outstanding in his four overs. Washington Sundar and Krunal Pandya also kept things tight but will need to do more in the upcoming games.
The first victory for Bangladesh in T20 cricket against India after nine matches had some nervy moments but for the most part, the Bangla Tigers were in the lead.
They never let India’s batsmen get away and kept pace with the required run-rate during their chase as well.
Mushfiqur Rahim was brilliant in the chase and ensured there were no hiccups this time around. The work is not over, though. Bangladesh still has a series to win and that is not going to be easy.
The pressure will be on the Bangladeshi bowlers to continue their good showing. What was very impressive was that Bangladesh used a total of eight bowlers in the previous match. That ensured that Mahmudullah always had flexibility when it came to bowling choices or individual matchups.
Liton Das was the only batsman to get out cheaply in the first match and as an aggressive opening batsman, that is something you have to be used to.
Mohammad Naim and Soumya Sarkar may have seemed to be a bit slow but they were doing what was required of them.
Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah finished off the chase in style. Bangladesh’s batting can be quite unpredictable and maintaining this momentum is going to be key.
India may have lost the previous match but it is going to be very hard to stop the ‘Men in Blue’ in Rajkot.
Excellent batting conditions, big boundaries which will favour their spinners as well as their power-hitters, and knowing they must win to keep the series alive will fire the Indians up.
Bangladesh must make sure that no amount of complacency creeps up within their ranks.
Team CricWizz predicts that India would beat Bangladesh in the 2nd T20I to keep the series alive.
