After a disappointing start to the first ODI, we move on towards tomorrow’s game and hope rain won’t play a spoilsport again. India will be taking on West Indies for the 2nd ODI in Port of Spain, Trinidad.
This will be the second last limited overs game, before both the teams collide again in the Test format. After a whitewash in the T20 series, West Indies will be looking to bounce back in the ODI series to save their blushes.
West Indies: Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis, Shai Hope (WK), Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran, Carlos Brathwaite, Jason Holder (C), Keemo Paul, Sheldon Cottrell, Oshane Thomas, Kemar Roach.
India: Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli (C), Shreyas Iyer/K L Rahul, Rishab Pant (WK), Kedhar Jadhav, Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammad Shami, Khaleel Ahmed, Kuldeep Yadav.
Kemar Roach vs Rohit Sharma
The right-arm medium-fast bowler has an on and off fair with the West Indies national squad. However, Roach has got a call for this series. The right arm bowler currently has 123 ODI wickets in 90 played matches.
The Barbados born has an average of 29 and a strike rate of 35 with the ball. The real test for Roach will be keeping up with consistency and reserving a definite spot for himself in the squad.
The Hitman from India is currently in the form of his life. After receiving the Golden Bat in the 2019 World Cup, we can only expect Rohit to step up his game and take it to the next level.
Currently, he is ranked 2nd in the ODI rankings and averages close to 49. Rohit has 42 half-centuries and 27 centuries under his belt at present. Sharma averages an outstanding 6, against the Windies in the ODI format.
When it comes to ODIs, Roach has dismissed Sharma thrice, in 19 played matches.
Evin Lewis vs Bhuvneshwar Kumar
The aggressive left-hand opener is known for his quick fire knocks. However, Lewis has been seen slacking with his form off late. The batsman has scored 1181 runs in 41 matches, at an average of 32.
The Trinidad born currently has 2 centuries and 5 half-centuries to his name. Lewis hasn’t had the best of runs against India and averages only 26, against the current touring team when it comes to ODIs.
Bhuvi is currently regarded as one of the best earth bowlers in the world. His ability to swing the ball in the initial half of the game, while bowling at a good pace and at the right areas, makes Bhuvi a lethal bowler.
Kumar at present has picked 128 wickets in 112 played matches. With an impressive economy of 5, Bhuvi’s bowling average is 35 in ODIs. The right-arm medium-fast bowler from India bowled exceptionally well in the T20 series and we expect nothing less from Bhuvi in the upcoming matches as well.
When it comes to ODIs, this duo has faced each other 4 times. However, Kumar is yet to claim the wicket of Lewis in ODIs.
