After an easy T20 series clinch, India moves on to the next set of matches in the West Indies tour. The first ODI will be held on the 8th of August, in Providence Stadium, Guyana.
It will be an exciting encounter as the wounded Caribbean side will take a shot at redemption in the 50 overs format. Both the sides have packed a relatively younger side, to explore the potential of their future cricketers.
There will be 3 ODIs played in a span of 7 days. The first match will be played in Guyana and the rest two will be played in Trinidad. Squads for the first ODI haven’t been announced yet.
The last series win came for West Indies back in 2014, against Bangladesh. Ever since then, WI has lost or drawn all the played series.

The Universe Boss will be seen making a comeback in the ODI squad after missing out on the T20s. Gayle trembled in the recently commenced World Cup as he was seen struggling to get runs.
The king of T20 cricket, however, will be seen back in the WI side for the ODI series. Gayle has scored over 1200 runs against India, with an average of 32. Overall, the left-hander averages 37 in ODIs, with over 10,000 runs under his belt.
With 53 half-centuries and 25 centuries, Gayle has been one of the greatest ever for West Indies. Gayle is also the 8th highest run getter, when is comes to IND vs WI in ODIs.
Mohammad Shami was the trump card that India displayed in the 2019 World Cup. Initially, Shami replaced injured Bhuvneshwar Kumar to make an entry in the team.
He played 4 matches, in which he picked up 14 wickets. Shami has picked 127 wickets in 67 matches with an economy rate of 5 and average of 24. When it comes to ODIs, Shami has dismissed Gayle twice in 3 played matches
Jason Holder vs Virat Kohli
The battle of the skippers will be the one to watch out for in the first ODI. Jason Holder has now played over a 100 ODIs for West Indies and has fair amount of experience as a skipper as well.
With 129 wickets in 104 matches, Holder will be looked up to by his team mates to march the team in this ODI series. West Indies at present, are going through a dark time as they have seen no success as a team in the recent years.
Virat Kohli or King Kohli, is regarded as the best batsman to play the game today. The run machine has been in the form of his life in the recent years, scoring heaps of runs; which includes breaking and creating numerous records.
The No.1 ODI batsman now has over 11,000 runs with an enormous batting average of 59. The right-hand batsman has 54 half-centuries and 41 centuries under his belt.
When it comes to ODIs, Holder has claimed the wicket of Kohli 4 times in 16 played matches.
