After clinching the T20 series comfortably against West Indies. India are all set to travel to Guyana for their final match of the ongoing T20 series. Will India clean sweep their opponent?
The Men in Blue chased the target of 96 runs for a loss of six wickets in the first T20 match. This was a one-sided fixture as India gave no chance to their opponent to win this match. Not for a single moment, West Indies looked in a situation to clinch the victory.
This repeated in the second fixture as well. India got a great start as Rohit Sharma scored his first half-century of this series and became the batsman to score most sixes in T20 history. India did lose a couple of quick middle-order wickets but a hard-hitting from Krunal Pandya helped the team in putting up a target of 168 runs.
After losing a couple of early wickets, West Indies did get to a strong position and the credit of it goes to a quick half-century from Rovman Powell. However, Krunal was brought back into the attack and he removed two well-settled batsmen to turn the match in India’s favor before the rain could spoil the rest of the game.
As the series is already won by India. The Men in Blue might make few changes in their squad for the next game and give a chance to a couple of newcomers. However, Virat Kohli has already told that the focus is more on winning every match than adding a few new names to the already winning side.
India: Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli (C), Manish Pandey, Rishab Pant (WK), Krunal Pandey, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rahul Chahar, Khaleel Ahmed, Deepak Chahar.
West Indies: John Campbell, Evin Lewis, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran (WK), Kieron Pollard, Rovman Powell, Carlos Brathwaite (C), Keemo Paul, Sunil Narine, Khary Pierre, Oshane Thomas.
Kieron Pollard vs Krunal Pandya
We have seen how destructive batsman Kieron Pollard has been in T20 for Mumbai Indians. The West Indian batsman is performing in the same manner in the ongoing series against India.
Pollard scored 49 runs in the first T20 and was not out at 8 runs in the second match before rain washed out the game. The West Indian batsman has scored 129 runs in 10 matches with an average of 21.50 against India in T20 history.
Krunal Pandya will be the bowler up against Pollard. The Indian spinner has been clinical for his side in the ongoing T20 series. His economy was around five with one wicket in the first match and 2 wickets with 6.6 economy in the second fixture.
Both the players are part of Mumbai Indians in Indian Premier League, which means they know the game plan of each other. Also, with India winning the series and the last match not being that important. We might see pressure less Pollard, who is quite capable of smashing the balls.
Sheldon Cottrell vs Rohit Sharma
We were not over the performance of Sheldon Cottrell from the World Cup and here he is once again thrashing the stumps in the current T20 series.
The West Indian bowler has picked four wickets in two matches with 5.62 economy in the ongoing series. These two wickets have taken his tally of T20 wickets to 24 from 15 matches with an economy rate of 8.38.
Rohit Sharma, on the other hand, is a lethal weapon in the short forms of cricket. The Indian opener was the highest scorer for his side in the recently concluded World Cup and he is still hungry for more runs.
The Indian opener scored 24 runs in the opening game and 67 runs in the second T20 match of the ongoing series. Rohit also smashed three sixes in the last match, which helped him in getting past Chris Gayle record of most sixes in T20s.
Sheldon will try to get rid of Rohit early in the innings because the opener goes on then he might score a big total. So, it will be interesting to see who gets better of whom, tomorrow.
