India are all set to take on the knocked out Sri Lanka in the second-last group stage encounter of the ongoing World Cup.
Will we see another one-sided fixture, today? Well, the possibility of that is quite high as the Lions are not the same dominating side as they used to be a few years back.
The Men in Blue have already qualified to the semi-final stage and will face England in the second semi-final of this World Cup. The Lions, on the other hand, couldn’t qualify and finished in the sixth position in this World Cup.
This is going to be a 9th meeting between the two sides. In the past eight fixtures, the Lions have got better of their neighbours as they have won four times. While the Men in Blue came out on the top in the three fixtures. The remaining fixture ended in no result.
Sri Lanka (Probable XI): Kusal Perera(WK), Dimuth Karunaratne (C), Avishka Fernando, Kusal Mendis, Angelo Mathews, Dhanajaya de Silva, Thisara Perera, Milinda Siriwardane/Jeevan Mendis, Lasith Malinga, Isuru Udana, Nuwan Pradeep.
India (Probable XI): Lokesh Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli (C), Rishabh Pant, MS Dhoni (WK), Kedar Jadhav, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah.
Avishka Fernando vs Mohammad Shami
The battle between the young talented batsman and the experienced pacer. Who will get better of whom? We don’t know as both Avishka Fernando and Mohammad Shami have skills that can spoil the party of others at any time.
The Sri Lankan batsman got a good start in most of the games but couldn’t go on to score big. However, this changed in last game when against Afghanistan as the 21-year-old batsman scored his first ODI century.
Fernando batted amazingly and he was one of the major reasons, why Sri Lanka achieved their first 300 above score of this World Cup. The Sri Lankan batsman will once again be an important asset against India. As he is someone who can control the innings and balance the middle-order batting.
Shami, on the other hand, came into the playing eleven against Afghanistan in place of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who got injured in the Pakistan game. The Indian pacer picked up four wickets in his first match of this World Cup.
The 29-year-old pacer has taken 14 wickets in four World Cup matches. This has also made him the highest wicket-taker of the Indian team in the ongoing competition.
The Indian bowler will have a responsibility of getting rid of Fernando early in the game. Because if the Sri Lankan batsman gets in touch, then he might play another good inning.
Lasith Malinga vs Rohit Sharma
The clash between the titans. This is one battle that I’m eager to watch as both the players are good in their own manner.
Moreover, both Lasith Malinga and Rohit Sharma play for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League, which makes this battle more interesting. The two players have practiced enough against each other that they know how to win the battle.
The Sri Lankan pacer will be appearing in his last World Cup game. While the Indian opener will be eyeing for the most centuries ever in World Cup record. This makes this game more important for both the players.
The Indian batsman has scored four centuries in the ongoing competition and that has helped him in matching the record of Kumar Sangakkara of most centuries in a single World Cup.
Malinga, on the other hand, is the second-highest wicket-taker of his side in the World Cup history and he will be eyeing to increase his number of wickets in the competition. A couple of wickets in this game, especially, of Rohit will be a good departure for the pacer.

The current Sri Lankan side does not stand a chance against the Men in Blue. The quality of the game, coping with pressure and experience are the things that differentiate the two sides.
If India bat first, then they will go on to score big as this is the same pitch that was used in the last fixture of Afghanistan against the West Indies. In case this happens, the match will be one-sided. While if the Lions bat first then we might witness a little entertaining encounter.
So, considering everything. Cricwizz believes that India will end on top of the Lions in any case. Because currently, they have a better side and good form in comparison to their neighbours.
