The arch rivals didn’t fail to impress the fans as they put up a Classic India vs Pakistan match yet again. The stadium had an electric atmosphere and recorded the highest ever footfall in their temporary stands section.
The age old rivalry between India and Pakistan is one of the most anticipated matches in every Cricket Tournament ever. The Old Trafford Stadium recorded a full house and had fans from all over the UK.
India continues its winning streak against Pakistan in the World Cups; taking the score up 7-0. The Indian team looked rock solid in every department and left Pakistan with less to no grip over the game.
1. The Indian Top Order Performance
The Indian batsmen have looked rock solid throughout the tournament, leaving minimal scope for any kind of error. The top order has dominated in every game, giving the middle order no latitude to take over the crease.
With Dhawan ruled out, the gates had opened for K L Rahul to step up and open the innings. The right hander not only adapted to the role right away, but played a mature knock too.
Rahul goes by his explosive batting style and is known for his aggressive start. But in yesterday’s game, he played the anchor’s role, leaving the big hitting part to his dynamic partner. Rahul scored a guided 57 of 78 balls while Rohit scored a monstrous 140 of 113 balls.
The duo recorded a 100+ partnership as well. After Rahul’s wicket, the Indian Skipper filled and as usual played a stable knock. Virat scored a well curated 77 and ensured the score was ticking. Rohit now has 2 centuries and 1 half century in 3 matches, making him the 3rd highest run getter currently.
All in all, the Indian top order is at its best and in fact now has more depth with Vijay Shankar filling in for Dhawan. The all-rounder didn’t just chip in with his bat towards the end, making the total cross the 330 mark, but also landed the first blow with the ball as well and took two valuable wickets.
2. Pakistan’s Middle Order Rubble
It’s been quite a while since the middle order of Pakistan’s batting has been failing. The top oder have been consistently performing, on contrary to their middle and lower order.
This is a concerning fact for the Pakistani Cricket Board as top order batsman receive no support from the middle order, leaving week ends in their batting.
This has led to the lack of those extra runs, that could have proved to be the winning margin for Pakistan.
The fitness of these batsmen are also being questioned as they don’t just slack with the quick single and doubles while batting, but also become liability for the team while fielding.
3. Mohammad Amir’s Dream Run
Amir is currently having the run of his life. The left arm quick is now the joint leading wicket taker along with Mitchell Starc, in this Tournament.
Amir recorded his best ever ODI bowling figures in the match against Australia where the leftie picked 5 for a mere 30 runs.
He didn’t stop there; Amir followed up with 3 more wickets in this encounter making him climb the ladder to a total of 13 wickets in this tournament so far.
Amir has been bowling exceptionally well and has a lot of expectations pinned to him in this World Cup.
The bowler has been giving it his all but has got no real support from his colleagues so far. Hasan Ali walked into this tournament with a lot of hopes, but has lived up to none of it so far.
This is a worrying factor as Pakistani players lack consistency. The current situation is of a ‘ One Hit Wonder’ show, after which the players fade away.
