The twelfth edition of the Indian Premier League is into the Playoff stages, and in Match no. 57 Qualifier 1 we will witness three-time champions Mumbai Indians locking horns with the holders Chennai Super Kings at the M A Chidambaram Stadium.
The Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai outfit, being one of the frontrunners to lift the IPL trophy this time around, started in their typical slow fashion, winning one out of their first three matches.
MI have finished on top of the IPL table, albeit being tied on points with CSK, and ahead only on net run rate.
They boast of a squad with enviable depth and variety in both the batting and bowling departments. With experienced T20 specialists in their squad, they have the fuel and mileage to go all the way.
On the other hand, CSK made a fairytale start to the glitzy tournament by winning comfortably from the word go. Led by MS Dhoni, the Men in Yellow possess a brilliant squad that has truckloads of experience.
They have a habit of winning and winning handsome, and have been traditional powerhouses on the leaderboard.
Mumbai Indians (Probable XI): Rohit Sharma (C), Quinton de Kock (WK), Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Mitchell McClenaghan, Rahul Chahar, Jasprit Bumrah, Lasith Malinga.
Chennai Super Kings (Probable XI): Shane Watson, Murali Vijay, Faf du Plessis, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni (C) (WK), Dwayne Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja, Harbhajan Singh, Deepak Chahar, Imran Tahir.
Quinton de Kock vs Imran Tahir
Quinton de Kock has been one of the best finds in the South African cricket team. The Proteas wicketkeeper has 1419 runs from 48 IPL matches, at 30.85 with an excellent strike rate of 131.39.
He was traded by the Royal Challengers Bangalore to the Mumbai Indians after a surprisingly underwhelming season last year.
His national teammate Imran Tahir has been a vital cog in the CSK bowling unit. The right-arm leggie is adept at testing batsmen on all surfaces, and is a proven wicket-taker.
From 52 IPL matches, the wily customer has managed to prise out 74 wickets at an exceptional strike rate of 15.68. His economy rate is 7.9 and slightly on the higher side, but that is down to him being a wrist spinner.
Jasprit Bumrah vs Suresh Raina
Jasprit Bumrah is arguably one of the best bowlers in the T20 circuit, and with his ability to bowl yorkers and slower deliveries on a consistent basis, he is a mighty force to reckon with.
He has an unorthodox bowling action. Bumrah has 80 IPL wickets at an average of 26.73 with an economy rate of 7.62, and that is commendable, considering that he bowls a lot of final overs.
Suresh Raina has been one of IPL’s most consistent players for many years now, and the Uttar Pradesh southpaw is a fearless and enterprising cricketer with a vast array of attacking shots.
His ability to attack from the word go, makes him a very crucial player for Chennai and a tough competitor.
Raina is one of the leading run-makers in IPL history, with as many as 5344 runs from 190 matches, with a batting average of 33.82 at a healthy strike rate of 137.7.
