In the 53rd match of the ongoing Indian Premier League, Delhi Capitals are all set to host Rajasthan Royals at Feroz Shah Kotla, today.
This going to be a 20th meeting between the two clubs. In the past, Rajasthan have got better of Delhi as they have clinched 11 victories in comparison to DC’s eight. Both the sides have been better at their home ground. The Delhi franchise have defeated Rajasthan four times in Delhi while RR have defeated DC in four games in Rajasthan.
Even though Rajasthan have been a better side in the past, the Delhi franchise have a better chance of winning this fixture. The reason being the current form of the two sides.
Rajasthan are out of the IPL and this is going to be their last game of the season. RR have lost seven games out of their 13 fixtures and are in the seventh position while Delhi have won eight matches and have qualified for the playoffs.
No one expected such an outstanding performance from DC this season. The Delhi roster consists of mostly youngsters, who have found it hard to help their side in the past seasons of IPL. However, this season it changed as all of them have worked hard and helped their side in qualifying for the playoffs first time in IPL history.
DC predicted line-up: Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer (C), Rishabh Pant (WK), Colin Ingram, Sherfane Rutherford, Axar Patel, Trent Boult, Amit Mishra, Ishant Sharma, Sandeep Lamichhane.
RR predicted line-up: Ajinkya Rahane (C), Liam Livingstone, Sanju Samson (WK), Rahul Tripathi, Ashton Turner, Riyan Parag, Stuart Binny, Shreyas Gopal, Jaydev Unadkat, Varun Aaron, Oshane Thomas.
Shreyas Iyer vs Shreyas Gopal
The Delhi captain, Shreyas Iyer has performed well for his side this season. He hasn’t been on top of his game but his crucial innings in a much-needed situation has helped DC a lot.
The Indian batsman has scored 427 runs which include three half-centuries in his 13 appearances for DC this season. Shreyas has stood up to his role of building the innings and taking his side till the last over.
Shreyas Gopal, on the other hand, has been the most consistent player of Rajasthan this season. The RR spinner has picked 18 wickets with an economy rate of 7.40 in his 13 appearances for his side.
He also picked his first hat-trick in the last game against Royal Challengers Bangalore. The match ended with no result due to rain but Gopal’s over was a moment of the match. The RR spinner took wickets of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers for completing his hat-trick. This was the second time that both these batsmen got out against Shreyas in the ongoing season.
Ishant Sharma vs Ajinkya Rahane
These two players have been consistent in providing a good start to their respective sides in the ongoing IPL. Ishant Sharma returned to IPL after a gap of one season. Many had a doubt about his form, but the DC pacer silenced all his critics by producing sensational spells this season.
Ishant has picked seven wickets with an economy rate of 7.44 in his 10 appearances for DC this season. The Indian bowler has bowled perfect line and length in the powerplay overs. If we look at his economy rate, which is good considering t20 cricket. Also, most of his overs have come in the starting six overs of the game, which makes his economy rate stand out.
Ajinkya Rahane, on the other hand, hasn’t been consistent in the current season. The Indian batsman has provided a good start to his side in most of the games but hasn’t been able to build on it.
The RR opener has scored 391 runs which include one century and a half-century in his 13 appearances for RR. Those stats aren’t bad, but we expect much more mature innings from Rahane. Nevertheless, the current season of IPL has been a best for the opener in the last three years.

It is going to be a tough fixture for RR as their three key players, Steve Smith, Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes have left for their World Cup practice. For Delhi, on the other hand, their key bowler, Kagiso Rabada is out of IPL due to a lower back injury.
However, Delhi have a good back up of bowlers and Rabada will be replaced by Trent Boult in the squad. For RR, it is going to be tough because they don’t have a lot of depth or great replacements for their match-winning players.
So, considering all of it. Cricwizz believes that this is going to be a one-sided fixture in the favor of Delhi Capitals.
