The twelfth edition of the Indian Premier League is almost into the final stages, and in Match number 48, we will witness the Sunrisers Hyderabad taking on the Kings XI Punjab at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal.
SRH have been admirably consistent since the franchise came into the IPL fold and they boast of a squad filled with few of the biggest names in world cricket.
But, having lost six of their eleven matches, Kane Williamson’s team has to get its tactics spot on, without which a playoff spot would be nothing but a distant dream.
The Ravichandran Ashwin-led Punjab outfit, despite starting off well and making a mark in the tournament, have hit a rough patch and have squandered their stronghold.
They possess a squad with great depth and variety in both the batting and bowling departments. With some enviable talent in their squad, they do have the potential to make it to the playoffs.
Punjab have won five and lost six, and are almost similarly placed as the Sunrisers. This makes tonight’s clash one to relish.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (Probable XI): David Warner, Kane Williamson (C), Manish Pandey, Vijay Shankar, Shakib Al Hasan, Deepak Hooda, Wriddhiman Saha, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Siddarth Kaul, Khaleel Ahmed.
Kings XI (Probable XI): KL Rahul, Chris Gayle, Mayank Agarwal, David Miller, Nicholas Pooran (WK), Mandeep Singh, Sam Curran, Ravichandran Ashwin (C), Mohammed Shami, Ankit Rajpoot, Murugan Ashwin.
David Warner vs Ravichandran Ashwin
David Warner has returned to the IPL post his ban, and has taken the tournament by storm. The Aussie opener has the Orange Cap in his possession and will be one of the wickets that Ashwin and his men would target initially.
Warner has 4625 IPL career runs under his belt, and has an overall average of 42.82 in 125 matches and a strike rate of 142.35.
Ravichandran Ashwin was the 2016 ICC Cricketer of the Year, and is an excellent T20 bowling option, having picked 122 wickets in 136 matches with a decent average of 26.38.
With an economy of 6.77, Ashwin is not only a wicket-taking bowler, but is also economical as he curbs the flow of runs. He is enjoying a brilliant season and is leading the team by example.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar vs KL Rahul
Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been very effective with the ball and has demonstrated his innate ability to take wickets at regular intervals.
He takes on the mantle of being the new-ball bowler for SRH, and has thus far not given a selection headache to his captain as far as his place in the team is concerned.
Whether he gets to move the ball at the start of the innings, will be key in a pitch like Hyderabad, that has traditionally offered scant help to the seamers.
KL Rahul has been in sensational nick, and that is evident from the four fifties and one century he has scored in this season of the IPL.
The Karnataka batsman has managed to score 441 runs in this year’s tournament, and has justified his World Cup squad inclusion.
