The twelfth edition of the Indian Premier League is under way, and in Match number 43, we will get to see two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders taking on the Rajasthan Royals at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
The KKR side, led by Dinesh Karthik, is one that has dished out consistent performances in the IPL with two winner’s trophies to their credit.
They possess a potent blend of foreign and Indian talent, that has proven itself time and again. But they have not been consistent enough this time around.
The Royals team, led by Steve Smith, is one that has perennially underachieved in the IPL, and they have begun in the exact fashion this time around too.
Even though they boast of a very enterprising mix of foreign and Indian talent, most of their superstars have been misfiring, and that has adversely impacted their chances.
It is a relatively young outfit that has the potential to surprise many like they did in the inaugural season, though they have thoroughly disappointed their fans by winning just three of the ten games they have been involved in.
Kolkata Knight Riders (Probable XI): Chris Lynn, Sunil Narine, Shubman Gill, Nitish Rana, Dinesh Karthik (C) (WK), Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, Piyush Chawla, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, Harry Gurney.
Rajasthan Royals (Probable XI): Ajinkya Rahane, Sanju Samson (WK), Steve Smith (C), Rahul Tripathi, Ashton Turner, Riyan Parag, Stuart Binny, Jofra Archer, Shreyas Gopal, Ish Sodhi, Dhawal Kulkarni.
Andre Russell vs Jofra Archer
Andre Russell has been the man to watch out for in this season’s IPL owing to his insane attacking prowess. His superhuman abilities came to the fore when he scripted an unlikely victory for KKR when they last met RCB.
The Jamaican all-rounder has scored 1282 IPL runs in 60 matches at an average of 32.87. He has a mind-boggling strike rate of 187.98 too.
The last season of the IPL saw Jofra Archer being a revelation for the Royals with some stellar bowling performances. He has 26 wickets from 20 matches, with an incredible strike rate of 17.96 and an impressive economy rate of 7.55.
The Barbadian pacer was a part of the West Indies Under-19 team, and has been rather successful in reining in the batsmen in this season’s IPL.
Sunil Narine vs Ajinkya Rahane
Sunil Narine is West Indies’ go-to spinner for wickets, even though the off-spinner has not had the most successful tournament this time around.
Narine has enjoyed only a paltry return, to say the least. Still, the array of varieties that he could produce makes him a tricky bowler to play against. The Trinidadian has also maintained an impressive economy rate in T20s.
On the other hand, Ajinkya Rahane has been one of the batting mainstays in the RR lineup over the years. The Indian international has 3745 runs from 136 IPL matches, at 33.14 with a decent strike rate of 121.83.
He has not truly set the field ablaze, but RR has started benefitting a lot from his solid starts off late. Case in point the century he scored against the Delhi Capitals in the last match.
