The twelfth edition of the Indian Premier League is under way, and in the Match number 42, we will get to see the Royal Challengers Bangalore lock horns with the Kings XI Punjab at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore have been perennial underachievers in the IPL, even though they boast of a squad with giant superstars.
But, having lost all of their first six matches, Virat Kohli’s RCB simply do not have the mileage to go all the way this time around, despite their recent signs of a comeback.
The Ravichandran Ashwin-led Punjab outfit, despite starting off well and making a mark in the tournament, have hit a rough patch and have squandered their stronghold.
They possess a squad with great depth and variety in both the batting and bowling departments. With some enviable talent in their squad, they do have the potential to make it to the playoffs.
RCB have won three out of the ten matches they have been involved in, and are placed last on the points table. On the other hand, Punjab have won five and lost as much, and are fifth.

AB de Villiers vs Ravichandran Ashwin
AB de Villers has been a rock-solid presence in the RCB, and has stitched many scintillating partnerships with Virat Kohli. The ex-Proteas legend has more than 4000 runs in IPL matches.
He has been in a rich vein of form so far, but RCB has been dismal as a team, due to which many of those knocks were rendered futile. He could prove to be a major headache for Kings XI tonight, if he starts to get going.
Ravichandran Ashwin was the 2016 ICC Cricketer of the Year, and is an excellent T20 bowling option. Having picked 121 wickets in 135 matches with a decent average of 26.47.
With an economy of 6.8, Ashwin is not only a wicket-taking bowler, but is also economical as he curbs the flow of runs. He is enjoying a brilliant season and is leading the team by example.
Dale Steyn vs Chris Gayle
Dale Steyn has arguably been one of the best pacers in the international circuit, and possesses many lethal bowling varieties.
The fast bowler from South Africa is extremely wily and often breathes fire, and buoyed by his inclusion in the Proteas World Cup squad, Steyn has been delivering inspiring performances for the RCB.
Chris Gayle has been the West Indian team’s opener for many years now, and the southpaw is a ferocious hitter of the cricket ball and an enterprising cricketer with a vast array of attacking shots.
His ability to attack from the word go, makes him a very crucial player and a tough competitor. Gayle has the best score of 175 in IPL history, while playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
He has more than 4000 runs in the IPL, and if he gets going Virat Kohli’s men will have a massive task cut out for themselves.
Taking into consideration the recent form of the RCB, coupled with their batting prowess and the nature of the Chinnaswamy pitch, Team CricWizz predicts that the Royal Challengers Bangalore would win its match against the Kings XI Punjab.
But Punjab have to start winning more games, and this makes the KXIP outfit dangerous.
