The 31st match of the 2019 Indian Premier League sees fourth-placed Mumbai Indians host bottom-placed Royal Challengers Bangalore at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. After remaining unbeaten in three matches, Mumbai were finally restricted by struggling Rajasthan Royals who won by 4 wickets to notch up their second win in this season’s IPL.
Bangalore on the other hand finally broke their jinx by winning against Kings XI Punjab by 8 wickets. Now they would aim to register their second win of the series to challenge Rajasthan for the seventh spot.
Mumbai are expected to play with the same set of foreigners who have helped them win 4 of their 7 encounters. Quinton de Kock, Kieron Pollard, Jason Behrendorff and Alzarri Joseph are thus expected to help Mumbai win the match and help them to climb to the third spot. Bangalore, on the other hand, would also field the same eleven that helped them win their first match of the season.
Mumbai Indians (Probable XI): Rohit Sharma (C), Quinton de Kock (WK), Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Krunal Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, Jason Behrendorff, Rahul Chahar, Alzarri Joseph, Jasprit Bumrah.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (Probable XI): Parthiv Patel (WK), Virat Kohli (C), AB de Villiers, Marcus Stoinis, Moeen Ali, Akshdeep Nath, Pawan Negi, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal, Navdeep Saini.
Rohit Sharma vs Yuzvendra Chahal
One of the best limited overs batsman in today’s generation, Mumbai skipper Rohit Sharma is the main batsman for Mumbai. Once set, Rohit can hit boundaries at ease and can quickly take away the game from the hands of his opposition.
With just 342 runs short to be the third batsman to have scored 5000 IPL runs, Rohit has scored 4658 IPL runs at an average of 31.68. With 1 IPL century and further 34 fifties to his name, the Indian vice-captain has a healthy strike-rate of 130.95 which further proves why he is regarded as one of the most talented and destructive batsmen in modern time.
The leg-break bowler from Haryana, Yuzvendra Chahal is the chief go-to bowler of RCB skipper Virat Kohli when he is in search for a wicket. Having already played in 77 IPL matches across 7 seasons, the former Chess player is an experienced campaigner who has had his fair share of success in the International Cricket as well.
With a total of 93 wickets in his 76 IPL innings, Chahal manages to pick up at least 1 wicket per match with an impressive average of 22.90, although his economy is a bit in the high range with 7.70. But it is primarily due to him being a leg-break bowler whom batsman try to charge and score runs quickly, and although this may be considered a weakness by many, but this is how he convinces batsmen to go after him and in the process lose their wickets after mistiming the shots that are easily caught by the fielders in the deep.
Virat Kohli vs Jasprit Bumrah
The best modern-day batsman, and arguably the best batsman ever to have played limited overs cricket, RCB captain Virat Kohli leads the batting-order for RCB. In his 12-year IPL career, Virat has played 170 matches and has participated in 163 innings with an average of 38.36 and a strike-rate of 130.51. He further has 4 centuries to his name along with 36 half-centuries and with 5218 IPL career runs he is the leading run-getter in IPL history.
Arguably the best bowler in the world presently, Jasprit Bumrah hasn’t yet staged the set on fire in this year’s IPL. However, knowing the capabilities of this Indian youngster, one can surely not write him off. With only 8 wickets in 7 matches this season, one can say Jasprit hasn’t performed to his true potential, however, one should also see that even though he hasn’t picked up any wickets, yet he has been impactful for his side with an economy of 7.01 in 7 innings in IPL 12.
Jasprit has picked up 71 wickets in 68 matches in his overall IPL career, with an economy of 7.71 which is very impressive considering he bowls primarily in death overs. With an IPL average of 27.66, Bumrah is the go-to bowler for Mumbai skipper Rohit Sharma when he needs to restrict runs or pick up wickets.
