Kolkata Knight Riders are all set to host Delhi Capitals in the 26th game of the current Indian Premier League season at Eden Gardens Stadium tonight. Will DC register their fourth win of the season?
Well, that might be possible because KKR have already lost one game against DC in this season. Kolkata batting first kept a target of 186 runs and Delhi in return scored 185 runs. The match went to super-over, where the brilliant balling from Kagiso Rabada took the Delhi franchise to victory.
The things completely changed for the two sides after this game. KKR went on to win two consecutive games against Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals away from home. When everything seemed perfect for Kolkata they tumbled as they scored only 108 runs against Chennai Super Kings at home. Chennai faced no issue and achieved the target swiftly.
Delhi Capitals, on the other hand, lost their next two games after defeating Kolkata. In next fixture, DC lost to Kings XI Punjab and then went on to lose against the in-form side of Sun Risers Hyderabad. The Delhi franchise did bounce back as they registered their third win against RCB in Bangalore.
This was an important win for Delhi as this has kept them in a range of reaching the playoffs. Moreover, it was a much-needed win for DC. Because they didn’t perform well in the last couple of games, but this victory will surely raise their performance bar in the upcoming fixtures.
The Kolkata franchise have won four of their six fixtures and are in the second position with eight points. They are just two points behind CSK, who have played one extra game than Kolkata.
Delhi, on the other hand, have won three out of their six fixtures and are in the sixth position with six points so far. This is a must-win game for DC as this win will keep them in the competition of the playoffs.
Predicted XI for KKR: Dinesh Karthik (c, wk), Shubman Gill, Andre Russell, Kuldeep Yadav, Piyush Chawla, Harry Gurney, Prasidh Krishna, Chris Lynn, Sunil Narine, Nitish Rana, and Robin Uthappa.
Predicted XI for DC: Shreyas Iyer (c), Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Colin Ingram, Rishabh Pant (wk), Chris Morris, Axar Patel, Amit Mishra, Ishant Sharma, Sandeep Lamichhane and Kagiso Rabada.
Andre Russell vs Kagiso Rabada
This will be the second time these two players will be facing each other in this season. The last time Rabada got better of Andre Russell as he bowled him out in the super-over. That was a crucial wicket for Delhi as we all know what the West Indian is capable of doing.
Russell is on the third position in the list of most run scored by a player in the ongoing season. The KKR all-rounder has scored 257 runs with a strike rate of 212.39. The West Indian all-rounder has an average of hitting a six in every five balls. He has already smashed 25 sixes in this season.
Rabada, on the other hand, is the leading wicket-taker of the ongoing IPL season. The pacer has taken 11 wickets with an economy of 7.55 in his six appearances for Delhi Capitals. His best spell came against RCB when he took four wicket-haul for 21 runs.
Both the players are in phenomenal form and it will be interesting to see, who gets better of the other tonight. The performance of these two players will definitely affect the result tonight.
Sunil Narine vs Rishabh Pant
This battle among the two talented players will be the melody to the eye. Sunil Narine hasn’t shown his actual potential till now. While Rishabh Pant started his new IPL season with an amazing hitting but then played some unnecessary shots and got out in the rest of Delhi’s games.
Narine has picked three wickets with an economy rate of 8.02 from his five games. The stats aren’t impressive, but we all know that the West Indian is a quality bowler and he can create trouble for the batsman.
Pant, on the other hand, has scored 176 runs with an economy rate of 172.54 from his six innings. The Delhi keeper-batsman has already smashed 10 sixes and 15 fours in the ongoing season. The stats of the Indian keeper-batsman are quite good. However, his one mistake of not adapting himself according to the situation is costing a lot to him and his side.
Even when his team is in trouble. Pant never tries to build his innings slowly. He always tries to hit big shots and finish the game early. In the process of doing this, he plays a sloppy shot and become prey to the baller.
He has to understand that one cannot strike every ball out of the ground. Pant is a serious contender for the World Cup squad and if he wants to be part of it. Then he has to find the solution to this problem. Because if it won’t stop then he might miss a chance to play in the World Cup.
The two sides have talented players, who can snatch the victory from the mouth of the opposition. So, keeping that in mind. We believe that this fixture is going to be high scoring. Because both the sides consist of big hitters, who can put up a high score.
KKR have been more consistent in comparison to DC. Also, the Kolkata franchise has Russell, who has already won more than a couple of games for them.
Delhi have a talented squad, but the lack of experience is clearly visible in this side. Shikhar Dhawan is the most senior player in the squad and he has to take responsibility for making the team understand their roles.
Looking at all the factors about the two sides. Cricwizz team believes that Kolkata will end on top tonight. While DC will come close to the victory but won’t be able to get a hold of it.
