After five consecutive defeats, Royal Challengers Bangalore are all set to battle it out against Delhi Capitals today. It is a must-win game for the Bangalore franchise as they have to win eight out of their last nine games to qualify for the playoffs.
The starting of the season hasn’t been great for RCB. In the opening game, they got bowled out for 70 runs and Chennai steered to victory comfortably. In the second game, they came close to defeating Mumbai Indians but lost by 6 runs in a no-ball controversy match.
Nothing changed for RCB in the third and fourth game as they lost both of them one-sidedly. After four consecutive defeats, all of us thought things will change for Bangalore franchise. Well, they did change a little bit as Bangalore scored their first 200 above score in this IPL. However, the Andre Russell show at the end took away the game from the hands of Virat Kohli in the last match.
Delhi Capitals, on the other hand, started their season on a high note as they scored 213 runs and won the game by 37 runs against Mumbai Indians. The journey of the Delhi franchise has been a mix of win and defeat. Delhi lost their second game against Chennai Super Kings and won their third match against Kolkata Knight Riders.
Their momentum was amazing in the fourth match against Kings XI Punjab as they almost got their hands on the third victory. Nevertheless, a sudden downfall of wickets saw Delhi losing their thirds match of the season. In the last game, Delhi Capitals lost to Sun Risers Hyderabad by 5 wickets.
Looking at the results of the two sides one can clearly say that their journey hasn’t been pleasant till now. Especially considering RCB, who have not won a single fixture yet.
Predicted RCB line-up: Virat Kohli (c), Parthiv Patel (wk), AB de Villiers, Marcus Stoinis, Moeen Ali, Akshdeep Nath, Pawan Negi, Tim Southee, Navdeep Saini, Umesh Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal.
Predicted DC line-up: Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer (c), Rishabh Pant (wk), Colin Munro, Chris Morris, Axar Patel, Rahul Tewatia, Kagiso Rabada, Ishant Sharma, Sandeep Lamichhane.
Virat Kohli vs Rahul Tewatia
After failing to perform in the first four games, Virat Kohli finally got some runs in his pocket in the last game. The Indian skipper played a brilliant inning of 84 runs before getting caught and bowled by Kuldeep Yadav.
This innings of Kohli made him the highest run-scorer in the history of IPL. Also, provided him some boost and confidence to his side.
Rahul Tewatia, on the other hand, has picked two wickets in the current season. His spell against Hyderabad provided some hope of winning to his side. However, a low score total was easily chased by Sun Risers.
Kohli has become a prey to spin bowling in the last three out of five games. This clearly suggests that Tewatia will be a threat to the Indian skipper today. Also, if the match is being played on the same pitch that was used in the last game. Then we might see some turn for the spinners.
Yuzvendra Chahal vs Rishabh Pant
It has been a great starting of IPL season for Yuzvendra Chahal. The RCB bowler has picked 9 wickets in his 5 appearances till now. This has also made him the highest wicket-taker in the current season.
Chahal is the key for RCB in this IPL. Especially when all other bowlers are failing to perform. Everybody has a lot of expectations from the spinner. It will be interesting to see, how the spinner handles this pressure and bowl on this high scoring pitch today.
Rishabh Pant, on the other hand, started his season with a great knock against Mumbai Indians but then failed to perform in other games. The Delhi batsman-keeper is the key for his side as he can change the result of the match.
The Indian batsman-keeper has always given up his wicket by playing a sloppy or unnecessary shot. Pant must understand his importance in this team, and he has to start reacting according to the situation of the match. One cannot always play hard-hitting innings; they also have to build the innings sometimes and take their side to victory.
It is a crucial fixture for the two sides as they need to clinch two points today. However, it is a must win the game for RCB. Because the result of this game will determine whether they are part of the competition or not.
Considering the same pitch that was used in the last game will be used in this match. If that happens then we might see another high scoring game today and once again the chasing side will have an upper hand. As dew will play a huge role later in the game.
Looking at the current performance of the two sides. Cricwizz team believe that Delhi will put up a big total and RCB will chase it successfully in the last over of the game.
