Kings XI Punjab & Delhi Capitals started their Indian Premier League 2019 season on a similar note with two wins and one loss in the three matches they played. Both teams won their season openers followed by defeats in the second their respective second matches. And they bounced back with crucial wins against tough opponents in their previous matches. In a battle of two even teams, KXIP & DC will face in 13th match of IPL 2019 season at Mohali.
KXIP snatched a win from Rajasthan Royals in their opening match courtesy Gayle’s fifty and also due to bowlers comeback in the middle overs while defending, especially after Buttler’s heroics. But they faced a comfortable defeat in the next match in a high scoring affair at Eden Gardens against KKR. After two consecutive away matches, they started their two match home run on a winning note against strong Mumbai Indians and now they have four consecutive wins at Mohali including three from last year.
KL Rahul’s anchor role against MI after two failures will be a player to watch out for in this game. Mayank Agarwal & David Miller were also among the runs in both the previous matches but their lower middle order is looking bit weak with less known hitters and the onus will be on Sarfaraz Khan & Mandeep Singh to deliver. After a good win against a team like Mumbai, KXIP may not alter their playing XI much and along with Chris Gayle & Miller, with their impressive outings, Hardus Viljoen & Andrew Tye may occupy the other overseas slots. Ravi Ashwin & Murugan Ashwin are the spinning options.
Delhi Capitals also had a similar run like the KXIP with wo wins and one loss. DC registered a comfortable win against mighty Mumbai Indians in their first match. But failed to acclimatize to Kotla’s slowness against Chennai Super Kings and faced a defeat. But they bounced back with one of the most thrilling super over finishes in IPL history against Kolkata Knight Riders. Delhi would have chased the target easily after Prithvi Shaw’s splendid 99 but they hold their nerves to seal a win the super over. Kagiso Rabada’s super over has sealed the DC a win against KKR and they hope to continue their away form against KXIP.
After the sensational win against KKR, Dc may not opt for any changes, but considering Trent Boult’s good record at Mohali may tempt them to go with him. But it has to come at the expense of one of Morris or Lamichhane. Colin Ingram and rabada are a certain in the palying XI and they may go with two out of the three from Boult, Morris & Lamichhane for the four overseas positions. The Indian core will remain the same in the batting department with Dhawan, Shaw, Shreyas Iyer, Pant & Vihari. Ishant Sharma may come back the side of being side-lined due to injury against KKR. Harshal may hold his position after picking couple of wickets against KKR and it will be interesting to see for who the DC think tank will go for in the bowling department.
Chris Gayle v Kagiso Rabada
Chris Gayle continuing his 50 over form against England in IPL 2019 also and the Universal Boss is the first batsman to score 300 sixes in the Indian Premier League. He scored a gritty fifty against Rajasthan Royals to help KXIP post a defendable total, but failed in a high scoring game against Kolkata Knight Riders. In the last game against Mumbai Indians, when KL Rahul is struggling at one end, he gave KXIP the initial kick-up with a 24 ball 40. At Mohali, where Gayle had good record in IPL, we can expect a big innings from the Caribbean star.
After missing last year’s IPL with an injury, Kagiso Rabada is setting the stage on fire with some splendid fast bowling in this year’s Indian Premier League. His sensational super over against Kolkata Knight Riders will remain in fans memory for a long time. In IPL 2019, in three matches, he took 4 wickets at an average of 22.50 with a best of 2 for 23 against Mumbai Indians. His raw pace will play a huge role on Mohali’s bouncy pitch.
Mohammad Shami v Shikhar Dhawan
Mohammad Shami has took giant strides in International cricket after his successful test series which paved path for a World Cup spot. In IPL 2019, he is trying his best for Kings XI Punjab with the ball. He took three wickets in three games, but his economy was on the higher side with 9.91. But we expect a bowler like Shami to come good on his day by scalping couple of wickets in the powerplay. Overall, in 46 IPL games, he took 24 wickets at an average of 49.87 and an economy of 9.20 with a best of 2/34.
After switching from SRH to his hometown franchise Delhi Capitals, Shikhar Dhawan started IPl 2019 on a steady note with 110 runs from three games at an average of 36.67. Though ha failed to give quick starts, he holded one end in the first two matches and tried for a quick start in the last game. At Mohali, where he made his test debut with a thunderous ton against Australia, he can fancy his chances to score a big one tonight. Overall in IPL, Dhawan scored 4168 runs at an average of 33.34 at a strike rate of 123.45. He scored 33 fifties in 146 matches with a highest sore of 95*.
As we saw, both Kins XI Punjab & Delhi Capitals had a many similarities in IPL 2019 with same no. of wins & loses. If KXIP have got Indian opener KL Rahul, DC have got another Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan. DC have Indian seamer in Ishant Sharma and KXIP gt Shami. So it’s an evens if we compare any department. So Cricwizz predicts the match to be a close one and with a good home run of four wins, Kings XI Punjab might come victorious as they know the conditions of the ground very well.
