India have taken a 1-0 lead in the five-match ODI series against Australia. MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav were the architects of the win, putting up a 100-odd run stand for the unbroken fifth wicket to steer India to a six-wicket win. MS Dhoni is enjoying a dream run with the bat in limited-overs cricket this year. He has struck four consecutive ODI fifty against Australia this year and looks good for more.
India definitely enjoy an upper-hand in this series, but Australia are known for their fighting spirit and can spin a turnaround in the second ODI at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Nagpur, on Tuesday. Just a few days ago, Australia defeated India 2-0 in the T20I series.
India have learned from the loss and are less experimenting in the ODI series. They will look to win the series first and then focus on giving other fringe players a chance in the series.
Nevertheless, the second ODI promises a lot of excitement as India would not let the foot off the pedal and take a 2-0 lead in the series. For fantasy league players, they have a tough task at hand to select players for their team.
Cricwizz helps you out in choosing five players who must be in your Fantasy League team for the second ODI between India and Australia.
Select MS Dhoni who is in terrific form this year
MS Dhoni has cracked two tons at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Nagpur, and has scored the most runs by any player on this ground. He has scored 268 runs in 5 matches at an average of 134 at this ground. And considering the purple patch, he is in, you can expect another big score from the former Indian skipper.
Although at No 5 he might not get that many overs to bat if India’s top-order comes to the party, it’s too big a risk to leave Dhoni out of the Fantasy League XI. And in any case, Dhoni’s counterpart Alex Carey does not stand anywhere close to Dhoni to edge the latter out of the wicketkeeper’s slot in the Fantasy XI. And Rishabh Pant might still cool his heels in the pavilion.
Virat Kohli likely to lead from the front
Kohli looked in great touch in the Hyderabad ODI, before falling for 44. A big score is due from the Indian skipper and the Nagpur’s flat deck will be the ideal platform for Kohli to stamp his class on the Australian bowling attack. Kohli has one ton and one fifty at this ground. And you can choose him as the skipper of your Fantasy XI because Kohli has the consistency to score big runs in an important series against Australia.
Besides, as a skipper, he would be eyeing nothing but a 5-0 whitewash to exact revenge of the 2-0 loss to the Australians in the T20I series. Make Kohli the captain of your Fantasy XI, period.
Glenn Maxwell is consistent?
Maxwell has not put a foot wrong since he landed in India. He struck a ton and a fifty in the 2-0 T20I series win. In the Hyderabad ODI, he scored a quick 40 before he was dismissed bowled by Mohammed Shami. Maxwell has a point or two prove to the Australian selectors and make his claim to bat higher up the order by scoring consistently in the ODI series.
He can be the vice-captain of your Fantasy XI as Maxwell can be devastating on his day as he showed in the Bengaluru T20I, racing to his third ton in this format at the international level.
Kuldeep Yadav’s variations
For the chinaman bowler, pitch or opposition is irrelevant when it comes to taking wickets. He is difficult to read off the hands and reading him off the pitch makes it difficult to score runs off him. Hence, Kuldeep poses a great threat to an inexperienced batting line-up of Australia.
Besides, Maxwell, an out-of-form Aaron Finch, and Marcus Stoinis in IPL, none of the Australian batsmen have faced Kuldeep before regularly. Hence, it’s a great opportunity for Kuldeep to knock out the inexperienced Australian batting line-up and help India to a 2-0 lead.
Kuldeep has the variations, discipline to trouble Australian players and earn wickets in bagful and give a lot of points to the Fantasy League players.
Shaun Marsh’s experience
Shaun Marsh is set to return in the Australia XI for the second ODI. He is the most experienced Australian batsman in the squad. He has the experience of batting in Indian pitches and conditions. He was the highest run-getter in IPL 2008. Hence, he knows what to expect on Indian surfaces.
He has the skills, temperament, and patience to craft an innings and take Australia to a position of strength. Australia missed an experienced batsman in Shaun Marsh in the first ODI. And his inclusion for the second ODI at Nagpur is a piece of welcome news for Australia.
For Fantasy League players, include Shaun Marsh in the XI as he has the knack of surprising opponents with tall scores. He has done so in the past and can do it again.
