India cruised past the Aussie total comfortably in the First ODI, as Kedar Jadhav and MS Dhoni ensured that the Indians won the match by 6-wickets with 10 balls to spare. After losing the toss, Indian bowlers bowled in tight lines and length which resulted in a wicket as the Australians were really struggling to score runs in the first power play.
Although Mohammed Shami was bowling in tight lines and lengths, yet it was India’s rising star Jasprit Bumrah who notched up the crucial wicket of an out of form Aaron Finch as the Australians lost their first wicket even without troubling the scorers. However, a strong 87-runs partnership between Usman Khawaja and Marcus Stoinis ensured that the Australians were again back on track. But soon, Kuldeep Yadav and Kedar Jadhav removed both of these batsmen to again hand over the advantage to the Indians.
A flurry of wickets in the mid-innings ensured that the Australians were well short of the par total despite a 62-runs partnership between Alex Carey and Nathan Coulter-Nile. At the end of their 50 overs, they managed to post only 236 runs which was clearly 40-50 runs short from the PAR score. Usman Khawaja top-scored for the Aussies with a gritty 50, but apart from him all showed signs of being set but lost wickets at cheap. The Troika of Shami, Bumrah, and Yadav picked up 2-wickets each for India.
The Indians in reply lost Shikhar Dhawan for a golden duck. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli then stabilized the Indian batting with a partnership of 76 runs, however, Virat Kohli was soon adjudged LBW of an Adam Zampa’s delivery. A couple of overs later, the Indians lost the crucial wickets of Rohit Sharma and Ambati Rayudu that really casted serious reservations on an Indian win. However, Former India captain MS Dhoni along with his CSK counterpart Kedar Jadhav stitched on an unbeaten 141-runs stand as India won the match by 6-wickets.
Kedar Jadhav was unbeaten at 81, while MS Dhoni remained not out after scoring 59. Kedar Jadhav for his batting heroics was adjudged the player of the match. The next match is on Tuesday, and it will be interesting to see whether the Kangaroos would come back with a promise or will it be another easy ride for the Indians at Nagpur?
