For the first time in the history of Indian cricket, Team India lost the decider in a three-match T20I series with the series levelled 1-1. It happened during the Wellington T20I against New Zealand which India lost narrowly by just 4 runs. With this loss, India conceded the three-match T20I series 2-1. This is the first time India lost a three-match T20I series as well. The T20I series loss also ended India’s 10 consecutive T20I series unbeaten run.

India beat Sri Lanka 2-1 in 2016
India conceded a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20I series. India lost the first T20I at Pune by 5 wickets after they were shot out for just 101. India came back strongly in the next two matches with R Ashwin being the top-performer, bagging 7 wickets. In the second T20I, India scored 196/6 before restricting Sri Lanka for 127/9. In the third T20I, Ashwin came up with bowling figures of 4/8 to bowl out Sri Lanka for just 82. India won the match by 9 wickets. India won the series 2-1 with R Ashwin earning man of the series award.
India beat Zimbabwe 2-1 in 2016
India were handed a shock loss in the first T20I at Harare with MS Dhoni and his men going down by just 2 runs. Dhoni, the finisher, failed to finish off things for India. In the second T20I, India bowlers, led by Barinder Sran, who took 4/10, restricted Zimbabwe for 99/9. India romped home by 10 wickets.
In the third and deciding T20I, India had a narrow win, romping home by just 3 runs, to win the series 2-1. Chasing 139 for a win, Zimbabwe were restricted to 135/6. With 4 needed off the final ball, Sran held his nerve to dismiss E Chigumbura and save India from embarrassing series loss.
India beat England 2-1 in 2017
India conceded a 1-0 lead when they lost to England in the first T20I by 7 wickets. But India came back strongly to win the next two. They won the second T20I at Nagpur by 5 runs.
India were defending a modest target of 145. England needed 8 runs to win off 6 balls with Joe Root and Jos Buttler at the crease. It should have been a cakewalk for England. But Jasprit Bumrah bowled the over of his life, dismissing both the set batsmen and conceding just two runs to help India to five-run win and level the series 1-1.
In the third T20I at Bengaluru, YS Chahal took 6/25 to bowl out England for 127 while defending 203. India posted a memorable comeback series win.
India beat New Zealand 2-1 in 2017
India won the first game comprehensively by 53 runs, but faced a loss in the second T20I by 40 runs. In the second T20I at Rajkot, Colin Munro slammed 109* to become the first player to score 3 T20I tons. Rohit Sharma has since surpassed him with 4 T20I tons. Munro’s knock helped Kiwis to level the series 1-1.
With the series was levelled 1-1, India moved to the third T20I at Thiruvananthapuram. In a rain-marred T20I, the match was reduced to 8 overs. India could manage just 67 runs in 8 overs. Hardik Pandya bowled the last over, defending 19 off 6 balls. Pandya conceded 12 runs to help India win the third match by 6 runs and the series 2-1. Jasprit Bumrah was declared man of the match for his 2/9.
India beat SA 2-1 in 2018
After beating South Africa 5-1 in the ODI series, India capped the success with a 2-1 T20I series win. India won the first T20I at Johannesburg by 21 runs with Bhuvneshwar Kumar taking 5/24. South Africa came hard at India in the second T20I with little-known keeper-batsman Heinrich Klaasen slamming 30-ball 69 to help his team chase down the target with 6 wickets and 8 balls to spare.
In the third T20I at Cape Town, India restricted South Africa to 165/6 while defending 173 to win the match by 7 runs. India were defending 19 off the last over. Bhuvneshwar Kumar conceded just 11 runs to help India win the series.
India beat Eng 2-1 in 2018
In the first T20I, KL Rahul struck 101* to help India chase down 160 with ease. But Kuldeep Yadav was man of the match for his 5/24. India lost the second match by 5 wickets before a Rohit Sharma special in the third T20I helped the team win the series.
In the third T20I, India were asked to chase 199 for a win. Rohit anchored the chase with a knock of 100 not out off 56 balls with 11 fours and 5 sixes. India needed 48 off last 31 balls when Hardik Pandya came out to bat. Pandya played a cameo of 14-ball 33* with 4 fours and 2 sixes to steer India to series win in the company of Rohit. The Hitman became the first player to hit 4 T20I tons.
