Decimated by England in the Isles and then crushing the Windies at home, India are set to resume their final overseas hurdle Down Under. Many believe this to be an easy ride for the Men in Blue to steer away to their first ever Test Series victory in Australia. For that to happen, however, the team has to up their ante. Australia have their own fare share of woes as the team is struggling to find its roots after the ban on Steve Smith and Dave Warner due to the Sandpaper Gate.
This four-match series is thus expected to be an exciting contest which begins in Adelaide on the sixth of December. Here’s the prediction:
Home Condition – Modern day Test matches generally fare well for the home team. This seems to be a bonus for the Baggy Greens, who have crossed their cricketing grades playing in these conditions. Thus, they have an advantage over their rivals as they know the dimensions of the ground, the behavior of the pitch, etc. Although the Kangaroos have been substandard in the recent past, this factor could work in their favor.
Formidable bowling attack – A bowling line-up of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, Peter Siddle, and Nathan Lyon can take away the game in a session from their rivals in their home conditions. If complemented well by their batsmen, Australia’s bowlers can demolish the Indian batting and can steer away from the game easily in their own favor.
Unsettled batting lineup – After the departure of Smith and Warner, the Australian batting line-up seems unsettled and vulnerable. Except for a couple of players, none have done justice to cement their place in the starting line-up. Unlike the past, this line-up will be up against a daunting Indian pace attack which will make it tougher for them to settle into a rhythm.
Form of Kohli – The mainstay of Indian batting, Virat Kohli is the one individual who the Aussie bowlers will target. If he gets set, India can stroll off to a decent total that can be challenging to the home team’s fragile batting. The visitors’ batting is entirely dependent on the captain as is evident through the recent away series in South Africa and England where approximately 70 percent of the runs were scored by him.
Fiery pace attack – Having completely destroyed the opposition’s batting order with sheer pace and swing, Indian fast bowlers wreaked havoc in South Africa and England. Consistently bowling over 140 km/hr and hitting the right areas, the five spearheads demolished the top order batsmen and left the opposition into pieces. The Australian batting line-up being inexperienced, it would be interesting to see whether the bowling line-up is able to crush the Aussie just as they did this year in their away tours.

Inability to get lower order wickets – Against England and the Proteas, India’s struggle in finishing off the lower order batsmen was evident. Moreover, they leaked runs in this duration. If India are to win this game and eventually this series, then they definitely need to rectify this significant mistake. They should come hard at their opponent’s lower order, setting attacking field placements and forcing the tail-enders to commit grave mistakes to get those wickets.
Cricwizz Prediction: We expect India to easily defeat the Australians as the Men in Blue have a better balance than the home side, who are over-reliant on their bowlers.
