The high-voltage series between Australia and India started with a spectacular T20I at The Gabba on Wednesday. The hosts were going remarkably well with the willow before the rain halted the play in the 17th over. The Kangaroos managed to score 157 in 17 overs (DLS method) and ask India to score 174 in the same amount of overs. It looked like a bit unfair for the Indians but that’s the beauty of the DLS method.
After being axed from the longer format of the game, Shikhar Dhawan showed why he’s still the best choice for India’s limited overs campaign. He scored a magnificent 76 off just 42 balls with the help of 10 fours and 2 maximums. Apart from him, Dinesh Karthik played a decent hand but unfortunately could take his side across the winning line. Now, the 2nd T20I is going to take place at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), which is even bigger than The Gabba. Here’s the prediction:
Back in their original form – The first T20I is the biggest example of why you shouldn’t take Australia lightly. They were exceptional in all the departments and showed their real class with the willow and ball. They have big hitters in the form of Chris Lynn, Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell who can time turn around the match.
All-round show from Stoinis – There were questions about Marcus Stoinis not bowling with a good pace but that’s where he was so good in his last 2 overs. He was forcing Indians to hit hard rather than bowling with a pace of 140 kmph. He took the important wicket of Dinesh Karthik who could turn the things in India’s favour. He also grabbed the wicket of Krunal Pandya.
Pacers spending runs in the beginning – Australian pacers were ordinary in the 1st T20I including Andrew Tye and Jason Behrendorff. However, the Aussies still managed to win the encounter in the end with the heroics from Marcus Stoinis and Adam Zampa. Now, they would be looking to put a break on leaking runs in the initial overs.
DK – Always underrated – Dinesh Karthik is a fighter! He had made several comebacks into the squad after proving their critics wrong almost everytime. He was left out from the series against Windies which was a shocking decision as he was handy in the Asia Cup. In the first T20I, he once again showed how well he can bat at any position. Though his handy knock went in vain last night, this innings would help him to be in the playing XI for some time now. Well done DK!
Wristy in Australian conditions – Yes, we are talking about Kuldeep Yadav, who was phenomenal in the 1st T20I by picking up two important wickets in his 4 overs. He was giving some decent flight which is a dream of any spinner. He would look to rattle the Australian attack in the 2nd T20I as well.
Poor shot selection – We are not just talking about Rishabh Pant here but the whole team need to make themselves comfortable before the next game, keeping in mind they should not play any unique shot unless it is required. Pant is very well capable of finishing the game from the front but his shot was not a fair decision.
Cricwizz Prediction – India would like to bounce back while Australians are still favourites in their mecca MCG.
