Men in Blue were phenomenal in their run-chase in the first ODI against a power-hitting side Windies. They finished the game with 8 overs left, thanks to a couple of stupendous innings played by skipper Virat Kohli and opener Rohit Sharma. The duo scored centuries while chasing a humongous target of 323 at Barsapara Stadium, Guwahati on Sunday.
Earlier in the first innings, Windies’ southpaw Shiron Hetmyer played the innings of his life by scoring a marvellous 106 off just 78 deliveries. He smashed 6 sixes and the same number of fours to register one of his top knocks. Now, as Kohli & Co. are 1-0 up in the series, their next test would be at Visakhapatnam on October 24. The home side would want to put more pressure on Windies by defeating them again. Here’s the prediction of the 2nd ODI:
Combination of power and strength – No total is big for you when the team include the giants like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni. Hitman and Chasemaster, both showed their class in the first ODI at Guwahati, which India won by 8 wickets easily. Even after putting a mammoth total on the board, Windies couldn’t manage to restrict them at any point. They leaked runs like anything and some sloppy fielding in between made things easier for the hosts.
Kuldeep Yadav might make an entry – Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav shared some brilliant time on the field in the past couple of years. However, the duo is expected to play together in the 2nd ODI after Kuldeep Yadav was benched in the first encounter. Mohammad Shami could be the one to serve drinks this time.
Fielding woes for India – India have been superb in the third and the most important department of the game ‘fielding’ in the past 4-5 years. In the first clash against Windies, the fielding was not up to the mark including the dropped catch by Rishabh Pant. It’s not always possible to chase down 300+, so India have to make sure that their fielding should save 20-30 runs in the next game.
Finally, they fired – After the two one-sided Test matches, Windies finally smashed a mammoth total on the board in the first ODI. Though they have lost the battle by 8 wickets, there were a couple of positives that the side would want to take it to the next game. Had they bowled well in the first match, they could have won the match easily.
Hitman from Windies – All eyes were on Marlon Samuels in the first encounter but the youngster Shimron Hetmyer stole everyone’s attraction with his scintillating knock of 106 off just 78 balls. He proved to be the real Hitman of that night with his solid hitting all around the park. It won’t be wrong if we say that Windies were just unlucky that day.
Sloppy stuff on the field – Just like Indians, Windies too were ordinary in their fielding. They dropped Virat Kohli twice which could have been the game changer moment for them. Apart from this, they were bowling short deliveries a lot to Rohit Sharma which eventually is his strength. Chasing down 323 is never easy but Windies were ordinary with the ball.
