After crushing India in the Test series, England are set to repeat the similar feat against Sri Lanka in the sub-continent. The series is going to start with the 5 ODIs followed by one-off T20 and then will be culminated with 3 Test matches. Eoin Morgan’s responsibility is set to begin from October 10 when the Englishmen will take on Sri Lanka in the first ODI at Dambulla. Here’s the prediction:
Full strength squad – England’s squad against Sri Lanka is a proof that the visitors are not going to take the hosts lightly. The Lankan lions have struggled to make an impact in the past including their recent show in the Asia Cup, yet the cricket inventors are coming with their full strength to conquer in every department.
All set to fire with their spinners – England are well-prepared for this tour as the side has included Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid in the ODI team to get all the help from the turning pitches. The duo have impressed with their performances in the past and would be up for this challenge as well.
No pace in pitches – Pitches in Sri Lanka would be even slower than that of India and England could face issues while playing on their rough pitches. This is a big challenge for the experienced players like Joe Root, Eoin Morgan and Jos Buttler.
Inclusion of big players – After a terrific performance in the Asia Cup, Sri Lankan selectors have included Lasith Malinga in the squad to give more strength to the pace attack. Also, Dinesh Chandimal is back in the squad which is a big boost to the squad.
Home conditions – Sri Lanka is completely a different squad when it is playing at home. We have seen their tremendous efforts in the past while playing in their conditions. England would also face tough competition in Sri Lanka.
No Mathews in the line-up – Despite his good form, Mathews has been dropped for the series against England. However, the clear reason hasn’t been mentioned but it could be his fitness for the 50-over cricket. Meanwhile, the all-rounder has retained his spot in the 3-match Test series which is set to be played after the limited-overs series.
Cricwizz Prediction – England can prove to be a tougher competitor for the home side if they manage to bat well.
