Though it was expected from South Africa to win the 1st ODI at Kimberley, Zimbabweans surprised everyone with their bowling effort by picking up 5 wickets. South Africans were given a target of just 118 but the victory could have been much bigger. Now, the 2nd ODI at Bloemfontein will be a do or die encounter for Zimbabwe. They have some quality players in their side who can bat really well. So, here the prediction for the 2nd ODI:
Excellent pace-attack – With Dale Steyn at bench in the first ODI, the other 4 pacers were remarkable in the first ODI. Lungi Ngidi won the Man of the Match for his 3 wickets for 19. It is expected that all these young guns will be on a roll yet again.
Home conditions – Cricket in South Africa is not regularly played on these grounds yet South Africans know these pitches well. They had an off day with the bat in the first ODI but this could be a perfect chance to gain back their lost momentum.
Batting department – Couple of main players are not playing due to injuries which is a big loss for the side. Apart from Heinrich Klaasen, none of the other batsmen could score well. Had the target been around 200-220, the Proteas could have lost the battle.
Bowled well in the 1st ODI – Zimbabwe bowlers kept the home side silent for a while before they notched a 5-wicket victory in the first ODI. Had they score around 220, the story could have been different. Now is the chance for them to win this do or die match.
Big guns not able to score – Giants like Brendan Taylor, Craig Ervine and Hamilton Masakadza failed to score runs in the first ODI which resulted in their defeat. This time they would like to avoid their previous mistakes.
Cricwizz Prediction – Zimbabwe have to score around 250 to stay in the game otherwise its South Africa anytime despite the big guns not playing.
