The much-awaited Asia Cup 2018 is about to start in a week and fans can’t wait to see their favourite clash between India and Pakistan to be played on September 19. Before this, India will lock horns against Hong Kong on September 18. Both the matches are set to be held at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Both Pakistan and India have produced a plethora of performers in the past and therefore, we have decided to form an all-time India-Pakistan XI of Asia Cup. Have a glance:
Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar
This was probably one of the best opening pairs of all time. The perfect combo of left and right had given India some of the remarkable starts during the late 90s and early 2000s.
Sourav Ganguly has scored 518 runs in the Asia Cup history with the help of 4 fifties and a fine century that came against Bangladesh at Dhaka in the year 2000. However, his partner Sachin Tendulkar too enjoyed success in this tournament always. He smashed 971 runs overall in the multi-nation tournament including 7 fifties and 2 centuries.
Ganguly and Tendulkar have enjoyed success on numerous occasions and without any second thought, these two form the best opening pair in this line-up as well.
Inzamam-Ul-Haq, Virat Kohli, Younis Khan, MS Dhoni (wk)
This could raise certain questions of not including Suresh Raina or Shoaib Malik in the middle-order list but that’s the best we could do here. Inzamam-Ul-Haq, Virat Kohli and Younis Khan; all are capable to bat at any position while MS Dhoni is the best choice for wicket-keeping.
The inclusion of Kohli is because of his scintillating form these days and also his past heroics against Pakistan in 2012 Asia Cup when he hammered a match-winning 183 in just 148 deliveries. Overall, the Indian chase master has scored 613 runs in Asia Cup so far including 3 tons and a half-century.
Inzamam-Ul-Haq also ended his Asia Cup career on a high note by scoring 591 runs including 6 half-centuries. Legendary batsman Younis Khan was one of the finest batsmen of Pakistan during his days and his inclusion can’t be questioned in this Indo-Pak Asia Cup XI. The right-hander has scored 546 runs in Asia Cup with a solid average of 50.
MS Dhoni will keep the wickets in this all-time IND-PAK Asia Cup XI. His successful keeping and the finishing ability has impressed every cricket fan over the years. Dhoni has 571 runs under his belt so far in the Asia Cup history and is set to add some more in his account in the upcoming edition of the Asia Cup.
Shahid Afridi and Kapil Dev (c)
Undoubtedly, Kapil Dev is India’s finest all-rounder till date. The right-arm fast bowler is India’s second highest wicket-taker in Asia Cup; picking up 15 wickets with a stunning average of 13. Shahid Afridi, on the other hand, has two centuries and a fifty under belt when it comes to his Asia Cup performance. The former Pakistani all-rounder has scored 532 runs in this tournament. He also has 14 wickets to his name with an economy just under 5.
Both Kapil Dev and Shahid Afridi have been the best in their respective business throughout their career. Their inclusion in this squad has added more strength to both batting and bowling department.
Wasim Akram, Saeed Ajmal, Irfan Pathan
Any all-time XI without Wasim Akram can hardly be imagined. The finest left-arm pacer of all time attained a huge success in the Asia Cup history by picking up 16 wickets with a remarkable bowling average of 18.5.
He will most probably share the new ball with India’s left-armer Irfan Pathan, who at one time was compared with Akram itself. Pathan has 22 wickets under his name with an average of 27.5.
Saeed Ajmal will handle the spin department alongside Shahid Afridi. The off-spinner has picked up 25 wickets in the Asia Cup history with a terrific average of 19.4.
So, what’s your thought on this all-time Indo-Pak Asia Cup XI?
