Folks! Here we are with our top 10 analysis of the day:
1) Mohammad Irfan creates history
Pakistani pacer Mohammad Irfan has created history in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League. While playing for Barbados Tridents, the giant left-armer bowled the most economical spell in the T20 history. He gave away just 1 run and picked up 2 important wickets in his 4 overs. His figures of 4 overs, 3 maidens, 1 run and 2 wickets is the finest bowling performance in the T20 cricket till date.
His outstanding performance went in a losing cause as St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots won the game by 6 wickets. This is not the first time that a Pakistani showed this kind of performance. In 2013 CPL, Shoaib Malik bowled a brilliant spell of 4-2-3-1. Also in 2012, Zulfiqar Babar bowled a similar sought of spell with 4-2-3-2. He did that in a game between Multan Tigers and Quetta Bears in Lahore.
2) Tendulkar was great, Kohli more damaging: David Lloyd
Commonly known as ‘Bumble’, English star David Lloyd rated Virat Kohli higher than the legend Sachin Tendulkar. He said, “Sachin Tendulkar was aesthetically very pleasing, easy on the eye. But if I had to win a game, I would have banked on Brian Lara and I see that trait in Virat Kohli. He is a bit like Viv Richards too – He can absolutely dominate an era. Sachin was a great player but Kohli can inflict more damage.”
There is a constant debate over the comparison between Tendulkar and Kohli. Most of them have rated Master Blaster as the greatest of all time while very few like Bumble preferred Kohli. In the recent chat with Virender Sehwag, the Sultan of Multan was against this comparison as he said that it’s unfair to compare the two. Even Virat Kohli himself believes that Sachin can’t be compared with anyone. What’s your thoughts folks?
3) Coach Trevor Bayliss backs out-of-form Cook
England coach Trevor Bayliss has come out in support of their legendary batsman Alastair Cook, who is going through a rough patch these days. Bayliss said, “He is striking the ball well. His feet move well. I won’t say he is out of form – he is out of runs in the middle. He practices hard and he still plays an active role in his position in the team.”
This is not the first time that Cook has been in this sought of form. In 2012-2013, he went through a bad phase against Australia but came back with a bang thereafter. A legendary player like him should be given some time to make himself comfortable. Bayliss’ trust on his former skipper is a good sign for England. On the series front, the 4th Test match will be played at The Rose Bowl, Southampton from August 30.
4) Afghanistan beat Ireland in a low-score affair
After winning the T20I series, Afghanistan were confident of giving some exceptional performances in the first ODI but batsmen stumbled a bit against the home side. The Asian squad just scored 227 after losing 2 early wickets. But the middle-order that failed badly during the T20 series, fired in the first ODI. Ireland, on the other hand, couldn’t chase this much as well and lost the game by 29 runs.
Afghanistan are constantly providing some quality show from the last couple of years. Their next main target is to do well in the upcoming Asia Cup to be played in UAE. The conditions won’t be much different from what they have played over the past few years. It’s going to be a great opportunity for them to make their mark in front of the big teams.
