One of India’s greatest bowlers Anil Kumble made his Test debut today at Manchester against England. The tall man who used to bowl a bit by being a leg-spinner quick was later became the legend of this cricket-centric nation. He took 619 Test wickets which is the highest-ever by any Indian bowler.
It is the same match where Tendulkar scored a century in the 2nd innings and helped India draw the game. Anil Kumble showed some promise with the ball as well by taking 3 wickets in the first innings. Though he couldn’t get any wicket in the 2nd innings, his bowling in those conditions was appreciated by the cricketing fraternity.
Overall, the Jumbo played 132 Tests for India and had even scored a century with his willow, that too in England. He was a part of some of the biggest moments in the Indian cricket history including the Delhi Test where he himself took 10 wickets in an innings to thrash Pakistan in 1999.
Anil Kumble was also a part of 2003 World Cup where India reached the finals in Africa. Just after his 37th birthday, he was appointed as a captain of the Test team which was an ultimate honour. He led his side to a victory against Pakistan at home. He was also phenomenal as a skipper in the year 2009 when he captained Royal Challengers Bangalore. The leggie led his side to the final but unfortunately lost the battle against Deccan Chargers.
