Bangladesh would eye a comeback in the T20I series when they take on Afghanistan in the second T20I at Dehradun on Tuesday to level the series 1-1. Afghanistan won the first T20I by 45 runs against Bangladesh to go 1-0 up in the series. Bangladesh must win the second T20I to avoid a series loss. Cricwizz takes a look at the strengths, weaknesses of Afghanistan and Bangladesh and prediction of the clash.
Rashid Khan and Co
Afghan spinners – Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, Mujeeb ur Rahman – took six wickets between themselves to rout Bangladesh by 45 runs in the first T20I. Rashid was most impressive, taking 3 for 13 to stop Bangladesh from putting up any fight. Mujeeb started the slide by dismissing Tamim Iqbal off the first ball of the innings and from there Bangladesh could never recover. Nabi too pitched in with couple of wickets to help Afghanistan post their maiden win over Bangladesh in T20Is.
Afghanistan have a history of losing matches after winning the first game. They have allowed opposition to bounce back from defeat. Afghanistan must guard against complacency if they wish to win their maiden T20I series against Bangladesh.
Power-packed batting line-up
Bangladesh have been blessed with power-packed batting line-up with the likes of Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim, Sabbir Rahman, Liton Das and Mahmudullah. They have one of the best T20 all-rounders in Shakib Al Hasan. Overall, Bangladesh have a batting line-up that can destroy any attack.
Bangladesh were over-confident in the clash against Afghanistan. They had to pay dearly as they lost the first T20I by 45 runs. Bangladesh need to be cautious now and play a high-intensity game in the second T20I or risk losing the series.
Afghanistan are blessed with quality spin attack and that has made the difference in the end results. Bangladesh must put up a better show to stop Afghanistan from running away with the series. Our vote goes to Bangladesh in this clash as The Tigers will come hard at Asghar Stanikzai and his men.
Possible winner: Bangladesh
