Initially it looked like Kings XI Punjab would be the first team to qualify for the playoffs but that’s the beauty of the IPL as Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings qualified before them. Now, the situation is such that they are unable to win even a single game now.
On the other hand, Mumbai Indians have to win both of their games and then have to depend on other’s results. There’s too much to talk about but let’s first look at the strengths and weaknesses of both the sides:
Overseas support – MI are constantly getting a good support from their overseas players. Lewis played amazingly well in the previous game against Rajasthan Royals. Mitchell McClenaghan too is a frontline bowler for them. JP Duminy and Ben Cutting are also impressing in their respective work. So overall, Pollard’s absence is not making any difference.
Home factor – That’s a good opportunity for MI to win this battle against KXIP. Ashwin’s men are lacking confidence after their terrible loss against RCB on Monday. So, MI have a good chance of winning on their home track in front of their lovely supporters.
Bowling woes – We haven’t seen a collective bowling effort from Mumbai Indians so far. Only 1 or 2 bowlers are bowling well in every game, rest are spending too much in their overs. If Mumbai have to qualify for the playoffs, then each of their bowler needs to do well in their remaining two matches.

Batting power – KXIP were the best team in the first half of the season but gradually moving downwards in the second half. They need to win both of their matches in order to qualify for the playoffs and the kind of batting they have right now, the lions are capable of achieving this feat.
Mujeeb’s comeback – Mujeeb Zadran might be back in the squad after the spinner got injured his hand while bowling. His inclusion would be a big boost for the team against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium.
Flop middle-order – Kings XI Punjab’s middle-order has been terrible so far. They are unable to play upto the expectation. The likes of Mayank Agarwal, Karun Nair, Manoj Tiwary haven’t performed in the past few games. In this situation, giving another chance to Yuvraj Singh can solve their problem. What do you think?
