Kolkata Knight Riders produced an all-round display to thrash Rajasthan Royals by 6 wickets at Eden Gardens on Tuesday. With this win, Kolkata Knight Riders moved closer towards a play-off berth with 14 points with a game to go. However, a play-off berth is yet to be confirmed for them.
Chasing a target of 143, Kolkata were off to a brilliant start, with Sunil Narine smashing 21 runs off the first over off the bowling of K Gowtham. However, Narine went in the second over, falling to Ben Stokes.
Chris Lynn kept the fight on even as Robin Uthappa fell for another disappointing score. Lynn fell for a composed 45. Dinesh Karthik saw Kolkata home in the company of Andre Russell. Karthik slammed a six to score the winning runs.
Earlier, Kolkata Knight Riders produced a brilliant display of spin bowling to bowl out Rajasthan Royals for 142. Piyush Chawla, and Sunil Narine took five wickets between themselves for 49 runs in 8 overs to help KKR bowl out RR for a below-par total of 142.
Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Dinesh Karthik chose to field first on winning the toss. The in-form Jos Buttler and Rahul Tripathi posted 63-run stand in 4.5 overs, before Tripathi edged it to keeper off the bowling off Andre Russell. Tripathi cracked 15-ball 27.
The introduction of Kuldeep Yadav turned the tide for KKR as the chinaman bowler went on a wicket-taking spree. He first dismissed Royals skipper Ajinkya Rahane bowled for 11. Yadav struck again in the next over, dismissing the dangerous Buttler for 22-ball 39. This was Buttler’s first score of less than fifty in six innings as an opener in IPL 2018. Sunil Narine joined the party, winning a LBW referral against Sanju Samson.
Kuldeep came back to dismiss Ben Stokes and Stuart Binny to reduce RR to 96/5. Royals looked in danger of being bowled out for 120 or less if it was not for Jaydev Unadkat who struck 18-ball 26. Royals posted 142 in 19 overs.
