Sunrisers Hyderabad would look to continue their winning momentum when they take on poor starters and defending champions Mumbai Indians at Hyderabad on Thursday. SRH had won their first encounter against Rajasthan Royals easily by 9 wickets. Defending champions Mumbai Indians had finally looked to break their opening jinx but for a certain Dwayne Bravo of CSK who thwarted all their plans in the IPL opener. Cricwizz takes a look at the strengths and weaknesses of the two teams ahead of the clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at Hyderabad on Thursday.
In the clash against Rajasthan Royals, SRH produced an all-round show to outclass Ajinkya Rahane and his men. They bowled and fielded brilliantly. They also batted exceptionally well with Shikhar Dhawan and skipper Kane Williamson stitching a match-winning century stand that helped SRH win the match by 9 wickets. SRH look the best team at the moment in this competition so far.
Too much reliance on top-order
SRH depend heavily on their top-order batsmen such as Dhawan, Williamson. It will be interesting to see how the team fares if the top-order is dismissed cheaply. They have the reliable Shakib Al Hasan, Yusuf Pathan, W Saha but they are prone to inconsistencies. SRH would have to find their combination quickly.
SRH possible XI
Shikhar Dhawan, Kane Williamson (captain), Manish Pandey, Yusuf Pathan, Shakib Al Hasan, W Saha, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Siddarth Kaul, Billy Stanlake, Deepak Hooda
Mumbai Indians strengths:
Power-packed batting line-up:
Mumbai have an explosive opening pair in Rohit Sharma and Evin Lewis. Although the two failed to fire in the clash against CSK, they will be motivated to do well against SRH to help the team post their maiden win in the tournament. Then, they have few exciting young talent in Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav. Besides, they have hard-hitting batting all-rounders in Pandya brothers followed by Kieron Pollard. It’s a batting line-up to die for.
Mumbai Indians have always been poor starters and IPL 2018 was no different. They lost their third consecutive opening match as defending champions. They have a history of losing matches on trot during the initial phase of the tournament before bouncing back admirably to give tough fight to other opponents. But IPL 2018 is different as all teams are evenly matched. If Mumbai lose this clash, they will have a lot of catching up to do.
Mumbai Indians possible XI:
Rohit Sharma(c), Evin Lewis, Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Ishan Kishan, Krunal Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Mustafizur Rahman, Mitchell McClenaghan, Mayank Markande, Jasprit Bumrah.
Rohit Sharma vs Rashid Khan
Rohit Sharma is easily the best batsman of Mumbai Indians squad and he is opening the innings this time for his team. He failed in the IPL opener against CSK, but he will look to put the records straight against SRH. Kane Williamson, the Hyderabad skipper, will look to unleash his best bowler in Rashid Khan to tackle Rohit and send him back early to the pavilion. Rohit has been skeptical against quality spin bowling in the recent past, failing to read Akila Dhananjaya of Sri Lanka a few times. Rashid Khan too will look to fox the Mumbai skipper to give the team the edge in the super clash.
Head to head: 5-5:
The two teams have come together 10 times in IPL, with a 5-all record.
At Hyderbad: SRH have met Mumbai five times at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, with SRH having slight edge with 3-2 record.
Sunrisers will start favourite in this clash as they are playing at home where they enjoy great success. Mumbai will have to shrug off the loss against CSK to compete against SRH with a fresh mindset. Our vote goes to SRH in this clash.
