In a thrilling summit clash of Nidahas Trophy Twenty 20 in Colombo India defeated Bangladesh by four wickets to lift the trophy. In a nail-biting final Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma winning the toss decided to bowl first. Batting first Bangladesh set a competitive target of 167 in 20 overs and India chase down the target with a six by off the penultimate delivery of the match.
Dinesh Karthik hit rookie medium pacer Soumya Sarkar over the cover boundary to make sure India have the hands on the yellow metal. For Bangladesh, who were close to tasting the first major tournament win, had to succumb to a heart-broken defeat.
Now, the question is what is the reason behind Bangladesh’s defeat in the dying minutes of the Nidahas Trophy final?
Probably one of the best nights of my life. Nothing comes close to crossing the finish line for… https://t.co/lmy5k4DrMi

Following their remarkable victories against Sri Lanka, they have ample reasons to be confident before the beginning of the final.
While batting they did a good job by setting a 167 runs target for their rivals. After batsmen, particularly Sabbir Rahman who scored 77, have done their job, it was bowlers’ turn to defend the total.
Even bowlers like Mustafizur Rahman and Rubel Hossain have done the job by keeping India at bay. By taking wickets at important junctures of the match bowlers kept Bangladesh alive in the match.
In the 18th over, Mustafizur Rahman have just conceded one run and took the important wicket of Manish Pandey, who was looking in control of the game. After Pandey left there was a big disappointment in the Indian dressing room as losing a set batsman is not a good sign.
But, in the 19th over new batsman Dinesh Karthik to everyone’s surprise slammed a clueless Rubel Hossain for 20 runs, a much-needed respite for India and a new ray of hope for India fans.
Earlier in the match, captain Rohit Sharma was dismissed by Nazmul Islam and India’s new batsmen Vijay Shankar and Pandey were struggling to get the going.
In the back of this development, Bangladesh kept thing tight for India by now letting Shankar and Pandey play big shots. In the final delivery of 18th over, Mustafizur Rahman helped Bangladesh get rid of Pandey.
It was a welcome wicket for Bangladesh and they were cherishing the moment. But, their dream was ruined when new batsman Dinesh Karthik joined Shankar in the 19th over and blew Hossain away to score crucial 20 runs to take India on the verge of the win.
Rubel’s over has changed the course of the match. The pace bowler, who knew that slower delivery would work he instead sending fast losing his cool. There is no doubt that it was Rubel’s over where the match slipped out of Bangladesh’s hand.
In the final over, Bangladesh captain Shakib did a massive gamble by handing the ball to Sarkar, who took the wicket of struggling Shankar.
India was still required 12 runs to lift the Nidahas Trophy. Making it more difficult for India, Sarkar sent back Shankar to pavilion. But, it didn’t force Karthik to change his mindset. He hit Sarkar for four in the fourth delivery and the winning six off the penultimate ball to ruin Bangladesh’s hope for winning a big tournament.
