India will start favourite when they take on Bangladesh in the Nidahas Trophy at Colombo on Wednesday. All-round depth: Despite resting few of their star players, India have quality depth in both batting and bowling. They have reliable openers in Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma who can turn around the game with their hard-hitting game. Suresh Raina, KL Rahul, Manish Pandey, Dinesh Karthik form the explosive middle-order. In the bowling unit as well, they have been well-supported by the second string of bowlers in Shardul Thakur, Washington Sundar. YS Chahal, Jaydev Unadkat have leaked runs, but picked up wickets as well. Hence, India have the all-round strength to beat Bangladesh. India would also look to maintain their six-match winning record against Bangladesh in T20Is.
Rohit Sharma’s form with the bat: The Indian captain has not contributed with the bat so far in T20Is and that is a cause of worry for the team management. It creates undue pressure on Dhawan and the middle-order to bail the team out every time. Rohit Sharma will be raring to get back to form with the title round coming up.
Quality T20 batsmen: Bangladesh batsmen chased down 215 against Sri Lanka in the last clash. And they proved they have enough quality batsmen to take on any bowling attack in the world. Tamim Iqbal and Liton Das’ opening stand set the tone for the run-chase. Mushfiqur Rahim, Soumya Sarkar, Sabbir Rahman, Mahmudullah too are quality limited-overs player. Rahim’s confidence will be on all-time high after taking the team to the finish line in the clash against Sri Lanka.
Bowling can crumble under pressure: In the last clash, Bangladesh bowling was below par as they leaked plenty of runs against Sri Lanka. Even in the clash against India, Bangladesh bowlers were clueless how to contain the Indian batsmen. Bangladesh need to improve their bowling capabilities to give a tough fight to India in a must-win clash.
Prediction: India will start favourites in the clash against Bangladesh in Nidahas Trophy. Bangladesh will be a confident lot after the win over Sri Lanka in the record chase, but they are yet to win against India in T20Is. Our vote goes to India.
